DJI Mavic Pro

For people who like DJI products or are more into the photography side of quadcopters instead of racing..

Have you guys seen the new DJI quad that was released? the DJI Mavic Pro

I've built my quadcopters all by myself. But this drone seems to have it all I'm looking for in a package that is already built and the video stability and quality looks great! The portability like nothing I've seen before.

I'm thinking on just wait until it's shipped and see some reviews to make sure it works and performs as intended before pulling the trigger.

Has anyone else considered getting it? What downsides do you see in it?

Re: DJI Mavic Pro

There are two issues that I would need answering before buying one.

-are you able to use an external viewing pad such as the Ipad mini. The small screen built into the transmitter would seem inadequate

-can FPV goggles such as the Fat Shark Dominator V3 units be used.

I fly a Phantom 4 and use these items extensively. I would really feel restricted if they were not available.

Re: DJI Mavic Pro

DJI claims that this setup will work for 4.7 miles if I am not mistaken.
they use some "light version" of DIGITAL LINK like LightBridge between quad and transmitter. Transmitter is small but you saw that you can connect phone and use it as MAP and waypoint control. Using it separately via tablet it will need yo have LIGHTBRIDGE adapter to communicate with QUAD. tablet wifi will not reach that far!.
For the goggles I think it is possible as long as transmitter has video out connector for external googles and I think it has. I am considering purchase too because it is small and gives us long flight time. I build many DIY drones ( F450, F550, Tarot 640, Tarot 680, Tarot 810 from scratch , and my goal was stable machine with long flight time. ) and would never achieve it. I used NAza V2, Vector, Pixhawk, APM2.5 controllers and none give perfect stable and safe machine. This new Mavic looks promissing has has obstacle avoidance and double redundancy, and double optical flow sensors - which none of other flight controllers would accommodate.
I don't like it's fragile construction, delicate wings and that tiny 3axis gimbal would be a nightmare to fix if damaged in any way.

Re: DJI Mavic Pro

To me its a total winner. Already got my eyes on one and planning to get one soon.

And yes, it will work with goggles. I'm using a HDMI out on my P3 to feed into goggles for ride-along viewers. Buzz is that DJI is coming out with their own HD goggles soon

Re: DJI Mavic Pro

I've noticed that for phantom controllers they sell a module that replaces the module attached to the back of the controller and provides a HDMI out.

I don't know why I have a strong feeling that that won't happen with this controller, unless it's completely external, of course. This controller doesn't have the replaceable module as the phantom, it just has USB port and that's it. To use it with goggles, we would need that module form USB to HDMI (and then HDMI to RCA, if the goggles are analog).

Unless of course we use their own goggles, which are supposed to be 720p. I just don't like the size of them, I would prefer to give up quality on the video link and have a smaller set of goggle to transport and keep the whole package very small.

Agreed that googles shall be a must.

Re: DJI Mavic Pro

DJI does every thing right this time. Being an enthusiastic RC 3D airplane pilot and photographer for years, this is the first multi-rotor drone that I want to own.

It only goes down 50% when they liquidate the stock prior to releasing their next model. Like they did with their P3's just before releasing the P4

Re: DJI Mavic Pro

Looks like it will be quite some time before DJI offers a price drop. The competition just recalled their drones

Gopro Karma units are being recalled due to a potential power loss issue while in flight.
