Sounds like a good plan of attack, the ESC would be my first check too since it's easy and doesn't require swapping parts.

Re: Traxxas Rustler Not fast Enough :(

a 2:1 ratio on your spur/pinion (5.44 overall) should give you right around 100km/hr with a 2800kv motor on 3s

divide your number of spur teeth by the number of pinion teeth to get your spur/pinion ratio and times that by your transmission ratio (2.72 on rustler) to get your overall ratio

a 20 tooth pinion with your 40 tooth spur should do it.

Re: Traxxas Rustler Not fast Enough :(

Assuming it's running a 3.5" diameter tire (I measured the on road tires for my stadium truck at ~3.5") and not counting on any diameter increase from ballooning you need 5763 rpm at the wheel to hit 60mph. Yes the motor won't rev quite as high under load, but the tire will also balloon which should roughly cancel each other out for final speed.

If you look at the wheel RPM with the current gearing and motor, it can theoretically hit 74 mph with a 3.5" diameter tire, so to only hit 46mph means it's not revving nearly high enough. 46mph with all the same other factors is 4417 wheel rpm or 19222 motor RPM, well shy of the 31080 it should be hitting on 3s.

Re: Traxxas Rustler Not fast Enough :(

I have some good news, I re-calibrated the esc, taped the tires, lowered the front end to the point that it drags on the ground when it is still and drove it without the body and I got 110 km/h on gps running mod1 25/40. The only problems I am having now is the front lifts off the ground around 80-90 and the wheel nuts keep coming off on the front end at high speed. It is still tons of fun to drive

I'd love to see some video of a 90km/h wheelie... but I imagine that kind of footage is hard to get
