DLA56 engine rebuild

A meeting of the minds, the experienced, the all knowing.
This winter I ordered a new piston and cylinder head for my DLA56. DLA recommended swapping the parts out for 58cc, that's what guys are doing.
Engine is back together but I don't recall any snugness in rotation just before and after bottom dead center. Just as the ring is making contact with the bottom edge of the exhaust port and the ring dropping below the port and back up to the bottom of the port about 3mm or so there is resistance in the travel. I don't think this is normal, it should be a smooth transition all the way through the stroke with no spark plug (no compression) correct?
Don't want to blow a new engine.

Dave

Re: DLA56 engine rebuild

Found the problem, an issue with tolerances between the crank base and new cylinder. The cylinder was a very very tight fit into the crank base. After machining the crank so the cylinder would slide into the crank base the rotation resistance is gone, the base of the cylinder wall getting compressed. It all feels good now, no longer afraid to fire it up.

Re: DLA56 engine rebuild

It pops like it should feel now, comes right back around to the compression stroke.
I've had this thing together for a week and it's been bothering me, glad I looked at it.

Re: DLA56 engine rebuild

We'll have to see after the first run-up. Went from 1.72 hp to 1.78 hp! RRRRAAAAARRRRRR
I wonder if I'll be able to control the jump in power!
