What happens to foam when esc catches fire

This is what happens when a motor draws too much amperage from an esc. The esc can actually catch fire. Good thing it did not land in a dry hay field

Oops. Too bad. But at least it is foam. Could be an easy fix if you decide to.

That is a scary thing to happen. How did you manage to put the fire out?

Re: What happens to foam when esc catches fire

Yesterday a friends apprentice burned to the ground by accidentally reversing polarity on the battery leads (didn't use the proper plastic cover on an ESC extension to prevent improper hookup). Once the foam caught fire we couldn't stop it until it burned itself out. Only one wheel survived!

Something like that happened to a friend of mine. He had the presence of mind to give his model a good hard kick, breaking it up and saving most of the hardware before the fire spread further and burned everything up.

The answer to your question, reading only the title, is up in smoke, like a melted marshmallow.

Dang those nasty glow engines. Never seen of them do that yet. Only those perfect electrics.
