What is the best wire to use in order to bind wire landing gear? Is there a special wire available?

Iam a guy who like it cheap! - I use Bell telephone wire - I always get the scraps from a Bell Canada guys doing a job! I then strip the wire of the plastic coating and use this to wrap

Any wire parts that are getting wrapped get a cleaning - Hit it with a abrasive and make it all shiny then wrap! - I like using a propane torch to get the metal hot enough to solder!

With my landings, I need all the help I can get, so I have been using brass wire. Used to be available at outdoor stores as snare wire, or in the aviation trades as safety wire..

Home Depot carries a single strand wire, in the electrical aisle, if I remember correctly, it is blue
the black&green may be too thick. Strip off the plastic. Have you tried crappy tire?
Fishing aisle, wire lead, usually 2 or three strand wire.

Sounds like copper wire of some sort does the trick huh. Roscoe, are you refering to witness wire or lock wire?

Hi, I was refering to the old style brass locking wire, Worst job was the sump plates on the bottom of DC-3 oil tanks. Filister head screws, single strand safteying,standing on the wheel........

Thanks for all the replies, now I can successfully bind a wire gear. I never worked on the DC-3, but I am familiar with pain in the a&^ jobs like that.

Brass wire is usually available at craft stores

I have seen brass wire at Canadian Tire lately.

Years ago I used copper wire, but I think brass would be better for larger models.
