Hey guys,

Does anyone know if the stock fixed pitch Hummingbird board can take 3 cell LiPos (11.1 volts)?

I'm asking for a friend who wants to try out a 3 cell pack. ANyone tried it yet?

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

I run mine on 2 cells, and the motor gets mighty warm running for like 16 minutes... I'd also be concerned about discharging past a safe cutoff with three cells...

I have flown an HB Elite CP on 3 Li-Po for some time without any of the magic smoke getting out.

Initially, I used the stock mixing board and stock main motor with a direct drive tail. The tail motor was a GWS D-type with a 3030 prop. I added a Li-Po voltage detector to ensure that the minimum voltage parameter was not violated. Everything got hot with this setup, but nothing ever broke down.

I now have two brushless motors on the same frame. It does not work any better, but it is cuter!

I run a 2 cell 2100mah on my Hummingbird and it has all the power you would ever need and I'm getting somewhere around 20 minutes of flying. If you run a 3 cell I think you would start burning stuff up (from what I've read), plus they are a lot heavier and as I'm sure you know, every gram counts on a micro.
