Re: 35% Carden Extra 330S - Build Thread

Well, I've learned how to make mini movies now... tougher than building a Carden

Here's the first movie of my first time the motor ran this spring on skis at Amidair here in Montreal... as the batteries died on my first camera, I was taxiing over to the runway for my Maiden!!

Here's a second flight! Remember, make sure you turn off 3D rates during landing!

Now just a some set-up of the radio and adding in more elevator throw for 3D and I'm ready for the season

Re: 35% Carden Extra 330S - Build Thread

It flew great again today but my personal goal was to get it under 26lbs... so....

* Thanks to Rcc, I found a set of 4" foam wheels - saved 4.2 ounces from the Dubros
* My Toledo purchase of a CF stab tube saved me 0.5 ounces from the stock AL tube

Therefore, subtracting the 4.7 ounces off of my 26.3lb finished weight puts me now in at 25.8 lbs

Ask the folks at the club today... it's a rockship on uplines and harriers rock solid even in 30+ kph winds!

Here's to a very happy guy!

Re: 35% Carden Extra 330S - Build Thread

Well it was maiden day today in a word WOW this is truly the nicest plane I have ever flown and with the DLE 111 and 28X10 up front it is like a rocket!!!
Hovers are a 1/4 throttle affair, it is super responsive elevator is really sensitive but ok super stable, looks great in the air too, did some parachutes only required medium rates pointed into the wind the wings rocked only a little in a harrier on idle took forever to come down and it did dead flat awesome.
It would appear that one servo per wing is plenty as the roll rate on 3D rates is immense maybe 500 ish degrees per second roll rate…just a guess!!! So the Hitec 7950 TH are now going to be my weapon of choice in the future only thing I regret now with the Patty is I had flown it sooner then I would have saved myself $3K on the new Yak I have ordered because this plane fly’s sooooo nice!!! Great job Trev it’s a keeper!!!!

Hey Colin!! I'm so glad to hear that the maiden went well!!!

This plane has been passed onto many, many eager hands and everyone commented on the insane roll rate (I made the ailerons bigger and tapered) and sensitive elevator (stock Carden design). For IMAC, you only need +/-8° of elevator.

My older style DA100 was a monster on the front of this plane, so I can only imagine the kind of rocket it would be with the DLE111!!

Oh, and even though it's light, don't be afraid to beat on it hard (high speed walls, knife edge tumbles, etc) - it has been through it all and laughed. You won't find a more stiff feeling airplane ever!

Cheers

Trev
