Geezer from foamboard

Here is my foamboard Geezer, I wanted something like a Lanzo record breaker, or a Heath Parasol.
The struts are streamline aluminum tube, and 100% functional of course, because the wing has no spar. It was neat how they glinted high up, as they reflected the rising sun. Geezer should be good for soaring, Bill Winter style--where you have a preset throttle setting that you know is just enough to fly. Just circle high up like that, and, as Bill used to say, "if the airplane gets smaller, something is happening"
The wing has a bit of undercamber bent by hand about 1/3 back from the LE. It will be interesting to see how it retains shape over time .After I reworked the Topflite 10 X 4 wooden prop, it has a zero sink rate with just a bit of power. Easier to see with some paint.

Re: Geezer from foamboard

Thanks, some good things for me anyway, with the foamboard construction--its quick, cheap, tough, and the wing does not change over time with humidity. I've got other models with the flat plate airfoil from foamboard, and I've not seen any bad flight behavior. This has led me to wonder about all the airfoil theory

Here's a short clip before painting, be a little patient for the landing.
Needs a wheel alignment.

Re: Geezer from foamboard

Nice job, Wendell.
Please explain the TF prop reworking- What did you do to improve the low-power performance???

Re: Geezer from foamboard

Wood prop reworking is an old Bill Winter trick, carved down the square corners,
especially near the hub, feathered the tips and trailing edge, things the factory machine couldn't do

Interesting... it makes that much of a difference?

Re: Geezer from foamboard

Not a lot, but worth it on an underpowered model, where you want to carry just
enough power for a zero sink glide while thermal hunting
