Second Plane

Hi

I was thinking of building a Tiger 60 from Carl Goldberg and put in an OS 60 in it . When I asked my instructer what a second plane to build he said the Tiger 11 from Carl Golgberg . I have a freind who will be building the Tiger 60 , we started flying at the same time together and he s jumping to a 60 . I like to do this because I like to compare performance and it would be kind of net haveing a buddy to do it with. Is it too much for a second plane :

I will be finishing mine in dope and he will be finishing his in a plastic film . We will most likely have the same engines Thoughts apperciated .

Michel My instructer doesn t know I will be jumping to a 60

Well Michel its a very good question, I would go with the 60.
My second plane was a Tiger 60 and I still have it and use it
to teach my son. It has hundreds of flights on it (I bought it
used a few years ago). They are both very similour but the 60
with a good size 4 stroke (I have a tt.91) will fly in any condition,
I have flown mine in some pretty strong winds. The tiger 2 will
be a little bit more delicate. But then again some guys at our
club have and sweare by the tiger 2........Then again the 60
prepares you for even bigger stuff......

Pat
P.S. From St-Jerome do you fly at Amidair

The Tiger 2 is a great plane in any size, it will not disappoint you.

The one thing that I like to point out is the extra space that bigger planes take up.

If the 40 was a tight fit in your Honda - the 60 will be difficult and don't even think about a 90 sized plane ...

Then there is the extra fuel consumption - again no big deal - but if you are on a budget, the bigger engines do take more fuel.

Pound for pound - the 40 sized AC are the best bang for the buck, inexpensive to build & operate, the right plane will cut the wind nicely etc.

If you like in a high wind area a bigger plane will be more stable - so go for it. Either way the Tiger is a GREAT Second Plane!

Hi

Pat see you at the next float fly I will most likely be there . Those are good words for thought BBBair , but I perchaced an old pickup truck to haul my planes and to camp in at the same time . I burnt 6 gallens ( American ) of fuel and it is my first season . I will in the future be going into Gas , the bigger planes , so maybe this is a good idea

So this means I got two thunbs up

Thanks guys

Michel

The O.S 61FX is not big enough for this plane!
Do yourself a favour, stick with the 4 strokes. The Saito 91 is a great powerplant for the Tiger 60, especially since you're dipping it into candy

My first low wing plane was a Tiger 60 with an os61 sf. I still have it. It still flies great and tracks well.

Suggested modifications that I made:

Change it to a tail dragger.
Carve on a balsa cowl
Add 3/8 of length to the elevator and to the rudder.

60 size planes are a little easier to see than a 40 and aren't that hard on fuel.

I still start every spring with my Tiger 60. I just had it out last weekend for our corn roast, to wring it out before I put it away for the season. You won't go wrong.

Hi
Okay , what is the differece with tri-gear and a tail dragger : . I have just recently required my wings , would it make a big difference on the take off or is it something simple that I can learn . I kind of like this idea .
Jkovats Would you mind explaining a little bit more in detail about the changes to the tail end . What other opinions do I have , I have been questioning the engine I was going with the OS60 , how about Saito 91 it doesn t sound like a bad idea either . My plan with this plane is to learn accrobatics , I think I need to learn this in order to learn my orrientation in flight , but my goal is to get into SCALE . I like the sound of it being a tail dragger

Take care

Michel

I read your goals, Saito 91 and a tail dragger for sure, just looks better
