M-03 Info Please

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
I just picked up an M-03 for my grandson. I looking for some shock setup ideas.
I have the cheaper plastic version, of the oil filled shocks, Just wondering if there is a prefered oil weight for front & rear shocks.
We'll be starting out on carpet (smooth Surface) and later in the spring going to pavement. Also if there is prefered springs i would be interested.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

This comes with friction shocks (no oil) are you saying that will work fine. This isn't an RTR version

I still run with the kit shocks but I have lowered them an put a bit of fuel line tubing in them to reduce the movement. I also am using the shorter red and blue springs on them. Other then that I would lock the diff( Silly Putty works the best)and install bearings and get the Tamiya battery holder hop up. Too many times on the track I have been bumped and had the battery force it's way under the retaining bracket.

Battery holder - no way

The fast guys I see tape their batts. No movement that changes the handling with every mm of slide.

As for your oil shocks, if you want hard springs, run lighter oil, soft springs then harder oil. I have seen guys run no oil at all in mini. Want you mini to handle on rails, space the shocks for only 1mm up travel then pick an oil. On mine, I use 30wt. I am not amazingly fast but , but the car works great on pavement. On carpet, likely a 50wt would be better.

Well, got it all built and running over the weekend, i think it will be fun. Plan on going to a trophy race in Kingston on the 27 of April to run it, with a couple of practice sessions first of course.
Thanks for all the input guys
