I have a Well Cargo trailer for hauling around my planes. The aluminum sides are getting dull and chalky. Any ideas on what I could wash it with to brighten it up? Please don't sugest a paste wax as there are hundreds of rivits to deal with. Any ideas will be appreciated

Try a a wash and wax by Mr. Clean, or Turtle Wax... It works just like a car wash soap. Wash the trailer, and then let it dry, them with a towel buff over it lightly, it souldn't be a problem around the rivets.

Aluminum wool or in a pinch steel wool..scotch brite doesn't polish as mirror shiny. Use soapy water as a lubricant. Shine costs work...maybe a buffer of sorts.

Hey Cliff
Drop into a truck repair shop (like Team or Freightliner) and ask the fellas in there. Last time I was in there I saw a wash solution especially for making aluminum shiny again.

Mothers Polish works really good takes along time to do but man what a shine , You can pick it up at Canadian Tire

Frank is right, there is an aluminum cleaning solution available, ask at one of the larger truck stops.

Cliff,

The white chalky stuff is the aluminum oxidizing, basically corroding.

Colin was right, the only way to get it off is abrading it. By hand use aluminum wool, if you have a hand grinder you can get scotchbrite wheels (get the white stuff if you can, second choice would be the red but it's more course). Be careful using the grinder method, or you'll have an air vent in no time!!

To stop it from doing this again, you'll have to clear coat or paint the aluminum to keep the elements from attacking the aluminum.

Your local RV/Trailer sales depot sell a spray bottle with a cleaning solution in it to remove the streaks and aluminum oxide.
