Shopping for set up tools for 700mm plus size blades
pitch gauge - balancer etc.

What are you folks using? I would prefer to buy from Canadian shops if possible

Thanks Brian

Re: Blade Set Up Tools Pitch-Balance

Here is a pitch gauge that is easy to used on any heli that uses 500mm blades or longer:

or this combination blade and paddle gauge:

and balancers;

These are available from a number of different hobby shops that deal with us across Canada.

Re: Blade Set Up Tools Pitch-Balance

I usually just use a long bolt and put the blades together then tighten. Put the assembly between even surfaces and see which one falls first.

Kind of like this

Align tool works better though as shown in the video. But I just never bought one.

There are some digital pitch gauges available from Rotorquest, as well as universal zero pitch tools. Or if it's flybar, then a regular pitch gauge will work fine. I don't have a digital pitch gauge but use my android phone to measure the angles. Probably not the most accurate method but so far worked fine for me. Never had any major blade tracking issues.

Re: Blade Set Up Tools Pitch-Balance

those are quite expensive for simple manual pitch gauge

Here's an align digital pitch gauge for a little less...

Balancer 550 - 720mm blades for a lot less

Re: Blade Set Up Tools Pitch-Balance

It's not specifically for setting up the blades (well kinda). But I have this and have found it pretty handy over the years:

Re: Blade Set Up Tools Pitch-Balance

Franky, I don't mean to rain on your parade, but that sounds a little ghetto to me.

1: I'm sure it just checks for level - so requires your helicopter to be perfectly level.

2: Blades aren't flat - they have airfoils, so the top of the blade is going to have some angle even if it's actually level.

Does that app account for those potential shortcomings? If not you're probably better off just eyeballing it.

Re: Blade Set Up Tools Pitch-Balance

it is the same as using a digital pitch guage. Reset to 0 while holding the phone to the frame as a reference. Put the phone on top of the main blade grip to measure. It wouldn't work if the grips are rounded on top though. But technically you don't even need the blades to do it. Been doing it for a while and works fine. A buddy has a BeastX digital bevel box and I verified the results against the adnroid app. Same thing.
