I plan to do some flying off ice this winter. There is a very nice lake right by my house that is perfect. It already has about 6" of ice on it (people are already ski-dooing across it, if you can beleive that), so its good to go right now!

Last year i only did a couple of flights off of the lake with Andrew Coholic (my flying buddy ), and it was really a blast. I find it as much fun, if not more fun, than regular summer flying at the field.

I fly at the north field with the Oakville club. That is the Drumquin field. Today was perfect for lite electrics. The sun goes down a bit early this time of year.

I've probably seen you there but I'm no good putting names to faces.

I can only really get out on weekends because of school and exams now. I'll be out on Jan 1st with my Skistick, which is my slowstick with some half-arsed skis I made out of pink foam.
I think this is the first time in months that all my planes have worked properly.

Nope, I'm not a fan of the cold. I suffered frostbite in both hands as a kid and the circulation has never been too good since. Winter is for building.

That said, the Ajax club has put a lot of effort into the shelter, it looks even better this year, I think it's doubled in size, and the picture windows viewing the field are a nice touch, I really appreciated the stove. I might be convinced to bring a couple electrics out but, I'm not fooling with glow fuel in sub zero weather anymore.

... and I do hope things will be slowing down soon, at least for Christmas.... likely Christmas week.

Flying in the winter is new to me I have had to flights so far with a new used plane. I will try an make my own transmitter mitt soon so I can fly longer without my fingers hurting. This hobby is awesome, float flying, snow flying and flying off the ground.

And you would have to bring them along, right? Sounds good to me, keep my wife occupied while I'm flying

As to the concerns about messing with glow fuel in the winter: I put on a pair of them cheap "one-size-fits-all" dollar store knitted gloves, and pull on a pair of nitrile lab gloves over top (Fuel proof, wind proof, and make sure you grab the pair that have no holes!) so if I spill something it stays off my skin but I still have enough tactile sense to be able to grasp and twiddle a needle valve. also keeps my pinkies warm longer, and I can still grasp a transmitter stick twixt thumb and forefinger.
