Sig Riser 100 Wing

I am building this glider, and need to know how much taper there is in the outside wing section. I imagine there is a mathematical formula to figure it out. I know what the length of the ribs are, its the height that has me stumped.

The root rib, I have. Just no idea of what the W-8 (outside) rib height is.

While I'm at askin' questions, how much washout should there be on a 100" polyhydral wing?

Thanks in advance.

Opps! Forgot to add the leading edge tapers slightly, the trailing edge tapers big time.

Re: Sig Riser 100 Wing

Hi Brent,

How is Q'uapelle? Kinda frozen?
I am building a similar wing here now, but still cutting ribs out.
I can let you know in a couple days or mail you some patterns

Dave

Re: Sig Riser 100 Wing

Thanks Dave, I'm gettin' there. I screwed up and only cut one side! I guess I thought I needed the practice figuring it out.

One of my mentors has a name for this kind of build, TLAR!

BTW I am no where near Q'uapelle, I live on the third hill East of Alberta!

Re: Sig Riser 100 Wing

On my Riser 100, measured at the wing end rib W8, including covering, it is 22mm at the highest point, and the rib is 190mm long.
I can measure it off the original plan if that helps?

Re: Sig Riser 100 Wing

Thanks Perpetualrepair, thats the digit I needed! I sure hope your user name isn't related to your building skills! I guess unless someone is independantly wealthy, repairing is the mainstay of this hobby. Last I heard, gravity always wins!

Did you build in any wing washout? If so how much?

Re: Sig Riser 100 Wing

Well, it's coming together. Need to put in the dihedral braces and the shear webbing (the plan I have only shows 7 used, but there are 30 in the package) finish sanding, and cover.

Are you sure that wasn't a Biplane kit?

Re: Sig Riser 100 Wing

Ummm No! Not exactly! But the drawings made it look like all the pieces hooked together to form 1 straight (kinda) line!

Hey, I'm a beginner, hence the need for 55+ inch wing span! You know, you've seen me suffer, (opps) I mean fly.

That gives me an idea! A platypus plane!
