Been a while since I've posted here, there is a huge thread on this plane in RC groups I've been posting to, but thought I'd give an update.
I have, as usual, created a much more complicated build than I needed and it's taking much longer than I had hoped it would, but it's beginning to come together.
The fuse and left wing are almost done, flaps cut and installed. The covering is sign vinyl which I do love working with, it stretches instead of shrinks.
Here is a photo of it as it stands...or hangs...now.

Tell us more about the vinyl you are using and how it is being applied. How are you doing the curved parts? Does heat help? Do you have to apply a lot of force?
I'm considering using vinyl on a future project and any advice is welcome.

Yes, it is. the fuse was quite a learning curve and is a myrad of pieces. I did redo a few places as I became more proficient at using this stuff, but still have a ways to go.
For covering solid surfaces, I love this stuff.

4 stripes, to go over a curved surface, like the front of the nose for instance, you use a little heat, like from a hair dryer, I only have a heat gun and I have to be very careful, but it softens it so it stretches. The front I used a bigger square piece and stretched it around the nose, you have to at times, remove and re apply certain places, stretching it using thumbs and fingers of both hands to remove wrinkles. then trim off the excess which is outside the area you wanted covered. This excess will be all wrinkled and deformed from the stretching.
I redid the nose three times as I became better at applying it.

That's interesting that the foam did not melt or deform.
That would be my biggest fear.

What brand and type of vinyl? Is it available in Canada? There are different thicknesses.
When removing and reapplying, does the glue still stick or are you using CA?

Would the nose section be done in 4 pieces?

I get the vinyl from a sign shop near me here in Edmonton. Its self adhesive and on the foam it can be re applied a few times, but when it sticks to itself, especially after a bit of heat, it adheres really well and to remove it you have to be careful. the thickness and type, I have to look at my stock, i'm at work so ill do that tomorrow.
the nose is done in one piece that extends back about 2 inches all around.

cassat, the heat required to soften the vinyl is very low, I have a heat gun and yes, I have 'footballed' some of the foam because of a wee bit too much heat applied. But generally, very little is needed, well below the foam melt point. Heat is only required to go around curves if needed, and I do apply a bit after just to seal the seams if I did not use any during application, as on the wing top surface where its pretty flat.

4 Stripes, regarding the thickness I honestly don't know, I just grab a yard or two of the colour I need from the wall of rolls. The silver I got for the leading edge is thinner than the other colours. I know this is not much help, but having that one supplier so close and rather inexpensive, im not that worried about half a millimeter here or there.
