Aeroworks YAK 54 ( .90 to 1.20 ) Vs EF Yak 54 ( 74 " )

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
I plan to purchase a YS 140 Sport engine ( 4 st) for installation into either a Aeroworks YAK 54 ( .90 to 1.20 ) or Extreme Flight ( EF ) Yak 54 ( 74 " ).

I have seen several Aerowork kits at contests etc but I am not familiar with EF kits. Prices in US terms are similar but not sure which kit provides best hardware, strength and finish.

Any comments out there ?

Dave

Scroll down to the 69" 90-120 size. If they are like thier larger counterparts the QQ IMHO is better. Way less coupling

Thanks for the site and info; I suppose the 73 " size is more in line with teh Yak 54 72" and EF 74 "; comparable prices also. I like the hardware in the CRC kit.

Aeroworks Yak

I"m not familiar with the Aeroworks Yak but I have a EF Yak unpacked and on my work bench ready to assemble, it's the 74" red white and black. I've built about 8 arf"s and this one looks as good if not better than any. The fit and finish is absolutely awesome, a great looking airplane. The Aeroworks Yak is also great looking so you have quite a decession to make and I think you'll be happy with either one. I've seen numerous video's of both planes with glow and gas engines so there's lots of ways to power it. I think I'm going to use a OS 160 or a 40 size gas, not sure yet. I'm putting the finnishing touches on a electric Yak so as some as the work bench is clear I'll start on the EF Yak. havin fun. ken

Dave,

Are you looking at 3D or IMAC type flying?

I have owned 3 EF Yaks, 1 x 68" and 2 x 87" and have been extremely happy with them all.

I don't like the QQ 73/74" Yak because it looks like a pattern plane made to resemble a Yak, (IMHO - Flame Suit - ON!).

Go to www.flyinggiants.com and look at all the rave reviews for EF especially if you want to do 3D. Steves' Yaks are some of the lightest out there and your YS 140 will have no problems hauling it around.

You get good quality DuBro Hardware in English sizes not metric so hardware is easy to replace if need be.

His quality has just been getting better and better with each new batch and it was very high to start with when I got my first ARF from him 3 years ago. He started the Yak movement and others have jumped on the band wagon.

Ken, Thanks for your comments, yes I believe that I will enjoy either unit...just a matter of deciding upon best engine and plane combination.

Good luck with your build.....keep me posted

Hi Jim ( Scaleguy )

Good question ( 3D or IMAC ) I have been struggling for an answer to reply to you.

In want to advance in my skill level and that probably means IMAC, where I will need to hone my skills with formal flying configurations. The IMAC structure will in turn increase my confidence and ability. Presently flying a UcanDo3D / OS 90 4 stroke this year after being out of the hobby for 5 years... enjoyed the season.

Thanks for the links.
