Unionville DeHavilland Beaver - 8' Radial
Has anyone here built this plane, is it a good first scale plane to build, does it look scale when built per the manual?
What engines have been used? and any other useful comments that can be helpful. I am thinking of this as a winter project, price is right, and it doesn't incur the new escalation of price that ARF's have got.

Re: Unionville DeHavilland Beaver - 8' Radial
No point in even thinking about this plane,
just had an email back from a supplier in Canada and it has been out of stock for a while , and the manufacturer cites lack of balsa?. no idea of when or if it will be back in supply. Gosh darn, do the Chinese own all the balsa?.

Re: Unionville DeHavilland Beaver - 8' Radial
The Unionville Beavers at best would be considered standoff scale in my opinion. With extra work and some mods they can be made quite close. They are however, a very good flier. Very predictable and stable. Over the years I have built several Beavers, both radial and turbos.
I presently have two built, one with a 4130 Axi electric and one with an old OS 120FS. In my opinion they are a worthwhile build, but they are definately not an ARF. Some building experience required. Check around and I am sure someone has a kit available. Submitted FWIW. |

Thanks Closterman, I love your planes they look superb, and I am sure they fly equally as well.
But at that price I'd rather scratch build it and put the change in my own retirement fund.

Re: Unionville DeHavilland Beaver - 8' Radial
I built the Unionville 8' Beaver kit a couple years ago after having owned it for years. Powered it with a Magnum .91 4 stroke which was adequate. An easy flier and looks nice in the air but as already mentioned, is only stand-off scale.
