Re: DHC-4 Caribou plans

Here,I am progressing from the solid model,to slicing it into components, and then into lazer cut files with slots for formers, longerons and structural mount points .Alex

Re: DHC-4 Caribou plans

Here,I am adding support structures, and converting them to CAD laser cut files,as seen on the left side of the image. This plan is simple 1/8 balsa ,and 1/8 ply.Keep in mind that those cut files have rules and order that have to be followed.(ask Closterman) In this image, some are shown as wireframe, and some as solids,to give you the general idea of how it works. In the end,you get lazer cut files, and images of how the parts assemble. An individual can print the files, and glue it on balsa ,if he wants to cut them the old way,but laser saves so MUCH time and gives way better accuracy. Cad is great to modify existing cad plans, and time consuming, to trace an old plan into CAD,since ordinarily, you turn it into solid pieces, then turn it back into line drawings to be cut by laser.Laser does not do bevel(angle cuts).

Re: DHC-4 Caribou plans

The dilemma I have is in the wing box socket.Whether to make a simple rectangular socket to fit the roughly 28 inch inner wing and engines, or to follow the original wing front and rear shape( approx 10* angular anhedral.Later will come the aileron connections. Cad allows very accurate model creations, regardless of choice.Alex

Re: DHC-4 Caribou plans

I am working on the slotted aileron attachments and hinging.By taking various photos and editing,I paste them into the cad ,and then try to get common elements drawn, like the actual components with hinge holes .Fortunately, there can be easily produced ends of the brackets, which can then be mounted inside the brackets at particular locations.Alex
