Re: 40% Edge Build (another)
The pipes are a bit close to the tunnel ceiling so instead of clear monocote I went with 1/16 balsa sealed with thinned epoxy.
Also made up the aft hatch from the little piece of foam provided. Will be secured with two aluminum 6/32 bolts and t-nuts. |

Re: 40% Edge Build (another)
Set the phenolics both wing and tail. Used a line down the middle with perpendicular lines near the wing and stab phenolic and a square. By far the easiest way I think. Then glued them in with some west system.
Before I did that I tried the wing cores in place. Very close fit, likely no sanding required. Then got the cheeks sheeted as well as the belly pan and fit those pieces. The last belly pan piece is drying now. Glued in with poly glue. Pics are getting a bit out of order but thats it for now. Just need to finish up the tail/hatch mount and then start coring the wings. Re: 40% Edge Build (another)
Looks great Jason . Love the balsa tube and I agree about lining up the wing/stab tubes with the centerline / perpendicular lines!!... Soo easy, soo simple and deadly accurate

Re: 40% Edge Build (another)
Got started on the wing coring. All I can say is Yikes.
Hope she holds together. Quite labour intensive. A huge thanks to Trevor for the Templates not to mention the design. Making them up would be evenmore work. I am going with two servos so I left a bit of material for the servo wire tunnel between them. Otherwise pretty much went to town. Final weight shows a savings of about 4.1 oz per wing. Definately worth it. Starting to get abit crowded in my work shop. Last edited by pjp01; 01-09-2013 at 06:43 PM. Reason: added something |

Re: 40% Edge Build (another)
Thanks Andy, nothing ground breaking,I am relying heavily on ideas from your build and Trevors. Its been a great resource.
How have you found your Edge has held up after a season of flying. Had to put the Edge aside for a few days to put together a couple foamies for indoor flying. Jason Last edited by pjp01; 01-13-2013 at 08:23 PM. |
