i've never blown the spider gears in my diffs the only things i've broken are the ring and pintion gears (cheap GPM housings have aweful tollerances)... the reason i think i've never blown the internal bevel gears is because i use the stock hpi pins and just notch them with my dremel... they're made of a much harder metal and don't get worn out... another reason is i use really think diff oil (30,000 and 50,000).. this means there is less action in the diffs meaning less wear on the bevel gears... i use the stock cups btw but intead of the course thread screws i use fine thread 12mm screws to join the ring gear with the diff cum... they never back out...

Another thing you have to watch is the diff bearings as soon as they get slopy it's time to change them ,or you will strip the ring gear and or pinion
brakes are another diff killer ,if they are too tight it puts alot of stress on the ring gears and spiders

yes SHIM... thats what i forgot to mention... although i put the 8mm shims on the inside of the diff... putteing them on the outside moves the pinion gear away from the ring gear creating less contact between the gears... if you put it in on the inside you move the gears closer... basically the whole point behind shimming is to get the right gear mesh and to keep the gears in place... you don't want the diff to move from side to side inside the housing... and stay away from the GPM diff housings... i spent the money and got em but was REALLY dissapointed... the pieces hardly fit together and there's WAY too much play... the halves don't even match... i couldn't beleive they would sell something so crap... i went back to plastic...

Actaully, what I discovered was that after shimming the ring gear "in" I had to shim the crown gear "out" becasue there was alot of binding..after I shimmed out.. it was virtually perfect. No play on either gear, and a nice consistent mesh.. (that particular diff is almost 3 gallons old with my picco...)

i guess it must be different for each case because that was what i did initially and there was some play... best thing to do is try and see which one works best for the gears you got...

i would like to get a tiger drive, but it wont fit, the header gets in the way. i was thinking i could put it on its side, but i dont have one to test fit to see if it would work. i guess its back to the old rotostart

ya that is awesome... i saw it on savage-central a couple of weeks ago... i guess that's what happens when you have a complete machince shop at your disposal 24/7.... the towers coupld probably be made without cnc if your real carefull and use a drill press and a table jig saw... i have both but don't have the time to try it out and don't have access to the delrin either... i want to see how that holds up though... i think delrin is a stiff plastic and i don't know how well it can take nasty rollovers and bad landings... i like the tvp's too...
