A good trainer
Check out the GWS E-starter as a training platform. I am very impressed at this $55 foam plane. (Electronics of course add up to a lot more)
I finished putting one together last night. This plane is going to be the training platform for buddy-boxing with my 6 year old son. I have him started out on RealFlight. I also have a Kadet LT40 that he gets to fly, but we do not make it out to the field together that often. We have a nice big parking lot and huge lawn across the street from our house. That is much more convenient for training. This morning, early, I test flew the E-starter. Although it is a bit heavy due to the ad-hock battery pack I banged together to get it going (7AA cells), it flew very well. Quite amazing actually. This foam plane behaves almost identically to the Kadet. This is going to be a very successful teaching platform for us. Especially once I build some light packs for it (2/3A). It comes with geared motor and propeller. It performs very well with this power plant. I would not bother going brushless on it. Just build it stock, using 8.4v pack, and enjoy. I might have to build another one of these E-starters once my good friend sees it and how well it flies. I think I have enough excess parts to get started on a second one - except an ESC.
