Kmp F-18
Well just a couple of question's before I run out and buy one.
The local hobby store has one sitting out, and was very surprise how great it looked. http://www.kmp.ca/product_info.php?p...b465bc0a2d4256 It's the larger 90mm F-18 by KMP. Who has one and what do you think? Since it just came out, has anyone flown one, and....???? Recommend's a intermediate pilot skill..... been flying combat with high speeds and planes that can very snappy. Any comments or recommends? This would be my first electric jet..... Thanks John

Re: Kmp F-18
Yes it is a good looking plane. Is it good for your first Jet? Probley not.
While i understand were your comming from about the Combat planes,(I fly them too) High speed jets are still diffrent. Combat is good that it keeps your reactions up. But you still havent felt how it is to have the thrust comming from the rear of the plane instead of the front. I dont know you and I dont know what your skills are, yOu might be very caple of flying the F-18 but I think you would be better off starting with a 70mm foam jet first. If you still want to go big, take a look at this one for your first jet and save your self a ton of money. Its a 90mm fan aswell. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...m_EPS_Foam_kit But honestly if I were you. this would be the way to go for your first EDF Personally, I prefere the Rafale, but Ive seen this F-18 fly with Very Good results aswell http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...g-n-Fly_RC_Jet |

Re: Kmp F-18
Thanks for your input, the small f-18 from hobbycity would be a way to go first.
It's hard to say how good you are about your own pilot skills, I'm for sure not one that goes around saying I'm great, but I know I could fly the smaller ones with no problem. How would you rate the 90mm F-18 jet from KMP compared to a beginner turbine plane? John

The Truth is.. anybody can fly Jets. But you have to build up to it. Have a goal and work towards it. I started with the Foam Rafale Jet I mentioned(64mm Fan) and then 70mm foamies. The next was the Composite jets HET, SAPAC(composites fly diffrent than foam. Faster and more reactive and about 4-5lbs vrs 1 or 2lbs)and by this point I learned more and more how to aquire speed. My fastest litle HET F-16 was doing 128mph before a servo let go. Then I bought a my first Turbine Jet in early winter when I had enough Skill. YAH RIGHT!! I was just kidding myself. I didnt have Any skill, I smelt the roses and decided that if I was ever going to be able to fly the turbine that I had better get practising. So I took the PTS Mustang to the feild every single day if I could, and I practised Landing over and over and over for the entire winter. By the time the spring rolled around, I was now flying a 60 Mustang and making that thing do what ever I wanted. I was then Confident enough and Skilled enough to fly the Turbine(in my own oppinion). With help from all the other Turbine expereinced people, it was off to the races from there. Sorry for the long winded story. I just want you know that Yes you can fly Jets. But you have to be willing to put in a lot of stick time. Dont fool yourself into thinking your a natural. Were ALL naturals. enjoy the jurney, its not a race. Trevor |

Re: Kmp F-18
For the money, you cant beat the 90mm kmp f18. Not nearly the same caliber of aircraft as a turbine, but if you put it into the ground, you wont have as much explaining to do to the wife. Theres nothing like flying a turbine jet. It puts a smile on your face every time you do it. Trevor will vouch for me on this one. Even though they cost a lot more money, the turbine jet will out last the foamy easily, with just overall use anyways. Crashes are a different story, and we wont discuss that!!!! The turbine jet will, or should have all high quality components, where as the foamy wont. When I paid 800 bucks for the landing gear for my jet, people thought I was crazy. But after they see the pounding that these gear take, every single time, and the cheap stuff usually sitting on the bench, waiting for a repair, they see you get what you pay for. I hear people getting upwards of 700 flights on a set of these gear. As far as which is easier to fly, you have to compare apples to apples really. A boomerang sprint, is probaly easier to fly than a f18 foamy. Boomerangs are super stable, lightly wing loaded, etc. Flying an f18 turbine, is a different story.
Anyways, the kmp will definately give you a rush, if you are new to jets. You should try to come out one day and see some turbines fly as well. Theres a few guys flying these around, myself and Trevor are only a few. Good luck, and have fun

Re: Kmp F-18
I think big Jet fly better, definitively the KMP look very nice . Ask a friend to test fly for you , them fly with a trainer cord until you are comfortable.
Big Electrics Jet now they come very close to turbine . I was flying with 3-4 turbine jets last year @ the zone Event and my Electra was as fast and the duration almost the same with the 6400 mah cells..I know the smell and the price is different and maybe few more LB of trust.... |

Re: Kmp F-18
J-C, Your BVM Electra jet cost $5000 and is in no way comparible to the Foam F-18 that was originaly posted. Yes, The larger jets do fly better. But unless your familiar with flying jets, any Jet. You should start off small.
As Brad mentioned, IF you plant that beutiful F-18 into the ground. He'll probley be out $500 by the time you add taxes and will most likely become dejected of the whole jet experience. Keep it small and build up to it. |
