Re: Fixed gear to Retracts

Not having done what you're trying to do: have you considered how you're going to get the air lines through a finished wing to the tank/valve?

I dread the day I have to re-line my corsair wing knowing how they're in there now.

Re: Fixed gear to Retracts

I have no idea honestly I may just build a new airframe if it was a current one or if I knew the current wing would fit I would just build a new wing it just drives me crazy fixed gear on a warbird. The model I have now is an older topflight 60 size

Re: Fixed gear to Retracts

I would simply cut out the area for the retracts. Look at where the servo wires are running and use a long aircraft 1/8" bit to drill a hole through the wing. You have to remove a fair amount of covering anyway to put the hardwood in for the retracts and the wheel wells. Once you've done that, you'll be able to see very clearly where everything else needs to go.

Hi Rob-
If I where you I would leave it alone- when I build the plane I had a set of retracts also,
but desided not to do it- it would have required some modifications to the main spar etc.
Have you flown it yet?- I'm still doing a bit of work to the Cub, and hope to have it outside pretty soon- will send you a picture hen I get done
Kai

Re: Fixed gear to Retracts

I have just finished the Top Flight Gold Series P 40 Kit. I installed retracts. To retro fit, some of the bottom wing sheeting will have to be removed. The gear is mounted on half ribs that go from the spar to the LE. The tank will have to be mounted in the fuselage. The pictures show the L.G. not much can be seen, the wing centre section with the aileron servos and air valve with it's servo.

I can go into more detail if realy interested.

Re: Fixed gear to Retracts

I have not flown it yet Kai but I like retracts do you know if the dimensions are the same as the newer P40's? don't worry I will make sure your nice work isn't hacked up as you did do a very nice job on this one. fortunately I would only have to work on the bottom where it is a solid colour. I have allready taken the elevator and aileron servos out and replaced them with nicer digital ones really smooth now.
