The thing with these ads is they don't really show you the scale of the model.

One bud from the club came to the field one day this fall with what was advertised as a Mavic knock-off. When he opened the box, it was this tiny thing that was about 2" square. We all had a good laugh. It flew like crap outdoors, but he brings it to indoor now that the snow is flying. Its fun, but he acknowledges he got ripped off. The similar 2" micro cheapeis sell for about 1/3 of the price that he paid.

So I watched a Youtube video and here is a screenshot of the drone. YOu get a good idea of its size in this picture:

Basically, it's half the size of a Mavic.

To me, I consider it a toy. Which is not a bad thing if you let me explain.

We have LOTS of guys that come to our club with drone "toys" Cheapie, less than $100 all-in RTF packages. They are pretty much limited to very short range and can only fly in calm weather conditions. Camera quality is poor but acceptable. They tend to break easily, even from normal run-of-the mill outdoor flying. There are 2 outcomes to these kind of people:

1) They get really addicted to this hobby and realise what they have is crap. After a while of having fun with these cheapies, the have seen enough "good" drones at our club that they bite the bullet and buy a "good" drone and stay in the hobby
2) They get tired of the limitations of their "toy", and how it's constantly breaking, getting blown off-course in mild wind, the poor video quality, etc.. and they either give up the hobby never to be seen again, or retreat to flying their toys in the house, at which point we get the same outcome: we never see them again.

It's hard to tell when someone is bright eyed and all excited about getting into drones which of the above categories they will fall into. All we can do is point them in the right direction and give them some words of wisdom. I always hope that it's scenario 1 but you never can tell
