Dalton Extra 300 ML build

I've been watching Brent's Carden Pro going together (BBT's amazing Carbon Pro build) and I have finally received word that my new Dalton Extra 300 (Mark Leseberg edition) is waiting to be picked up at a border warehouse. I'll be driving down on Wed. to get it but in the mean time I wanted to start this build thread with a little show and tell. Not sure that the world needs another build thread but perhaps a little balance is needed since there are way too many Cardens and not enough Daltons being built LOL.

Specs:

-DLE 222 quad (formerly attached to Brad Egen's aircraft - thanks Brad!)
-JR radio, JR R922X Powersafe receiver running unregulated (2) 7.2 volt Lipo's
-Hitec HS-M7990TH servos (611 oz.-in. of torque at 7.4 volts) These servos also use the new Magnetic Rotary encoder rather than a potentiometer.
-Smartfly Ignition cutoff and Smartfly ignition regulators
I haven't decided on switches and batteries yet

The airframe will be built pretty stock with a bit of wing coring and a little bit of "cutty cutty". I will incorporate some CF triangulation in the fuse to increase torsional stiffness. I'll be following the recent trend in precision IMAC airframes of using a straight rudder (no counter balance) and 'shorty' ailerons (with one servo per aileron). I plan on adding one new feature that I have not seen used yet on any IMAC airframe but that will have to wait a bit (a bit of a teaser...)

I also have an interesting tail wheel that was made by Andrew Jesky's brother featuring a titanium rod and CNC'd tiller and wheel. Nice and light at 1.4 oz. and it has a bit of a bling factor as well.

I am not a machine like Trevor (some of us have to sleep) but I do intend to have this plane ready to go for the beginning of the upcoming IMAC season. Please jump in with questions or comments as we go along. It is such a great thing to have this amazing community of builders to draw information and inspiration from. The build table is cleared off, a fresh sheet of drywall is ready to go down... so lets get this thing built!

Sorry about the picture size, the next batch will be easier to see!

Re: Dalton Extra 300 ML

So I made the 7 hour round trip to the border and managed to pick up the kit without much trouble (it would have helped me get across the border a little bit quicker if I had actually brought a receipt showing the rather stern border guards what this thing was worth but that is a different story LOL!!). After paying $58 for GST I was on my way. I'll start unpacking tomorrow but here is a taste of what Santa left under the tree HO HO HO

Re: Dalton Extra 300 ML

So, like a 5 year old at Christmas I just could not wait until tomorrow to open those boxes! Here is what I found: LOTS OF PACKING!!

A well packaged kit, nicely laser cut formers, premium sheet and stick balsa, lightweight fiberglass parts with very few pin holes, a gigantic roll of plans, Main landing gear, wing and stab tubes and some nicely cut stab, rudder and wing cores. Everything arrived in good shape and I will check the inventory against the manual (not included but available on line ). Definitely a premium kit and I'm looking forward to getting started.
