Re: Sailboat recomendations

If there's two sailboats headed in the same direction you can bet there's a race going on in at least one cockpit.

Three woul dbe a blast, it's harder than it looks, just like RC planes.

Re: Sailboat recomendations

As I said earlier on another thread...I bought one for my fatherinlaw....and ive been using it more. They are a blast, and just amazing the control you have with a nice wind.
I lucked out...I was talking with my LHS about the price of them...how expensive they are....that I would love to get my fatherinlaw one...since he has always wanted one. They had one that had been returned to the store...and its been sitting on the shelf for about 10 years...still in the box. Think it retailed for about 349 dollars. Let me have it for 100 bucks. Came with the tx, rx and everything. It did need to have the servo replaced...cost another 20 bucks. Here is the video....

Re: Sailboat recomendations

So - picked up a TT Victoria. The assembly is going pretty quickly though I haven't started rigging the sails yet! That could be a little more challenging!

One little problem encountered is the hatch cover seems to be too thick to slide into the slot provided. Anyone with experiance on this issue?

Thanks Merv

Re: Sailboat recomendations

I looked at mine and on test fitting it I find that I will tack the rail down with the hatch inserted into the slot to make sure it works properly. The instructions mention a test fit and the groove that the rail sits in is quite deep.

Re: Sailboat recomendations

Oh, Ya! The instructions - lets see here...

Just kidding!

Yes that is just what I am finding but if you do as you suggested it does leave gaps that I am not sure the glue supplied in the kit will fill. Pretty thin stuff, more like a solvent.

I guess I could back it up with epoxy or silicone to prevent water leakage into the radio compartment.

Thanks Dave!

Re: Sailboat recomendations

As taken from thr OMYA build guide

Quote:
Most of our builders use the LONGBOW hatch cover made from .020 styrene which will save no less than 16 grams of weight. This is a huge amount. This hatch cover is included in the basic LONGBOW Victoria hardware kit.

If the heavy stock hatch cover is used, the edges of the hatch cover will need to be sanded thinner to allow the hatch cover to slide in smoothly.
I may decide to use a piece of clear plastic for my hatch.

David

I went ahead & did as you suggested. Worked out fine with only a couple of tiny spots to seal up.

Yes I was thinking of clear plastic too. But I want to get this thing in the water by the weekend.

Just the sails & rigging to do now!

I doubt that a beginner like me would notice a few grams of weight, gotta get the hang of her then we will modify!

Re: Sailboat recomendations

Well! It's finally ready. I want to see if it will float, as a model plane guy this thing feels mighty heavy!

I am wondering about the rear sail as it has interferance from the backstay line.

I will find out this morning - provided there is no ice on the pond(-3 C) and the wind isn't too strong!
