Re: Cool Idea for Power Supply
no, I am talking about an adaptor that Converts 120 V AC to 12 V DC and you are talking the opposite. They are mainly used for portable coolers. See here : http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows...%2BAdapter.jsp

Re: Cool Idea for Power Supply
I purchased a 16 amp, 12 volt power supply from Hobby City (puts out 14) and use it in the workshop to power all my 12 volt chargers (and I have several), as well as my small air compressor to pump up the retracts. I am also considering a BEC to avoid the need for a 4.8 volkt battery for testing. I already have the servo tester. I have so many tools, i need a tool to remind what I do have, and where I last put it! I don't use the P.S. too often. but when I need it, there is more than sufficent power for any requirements. No worry about capacity

Re: Cool Idea for Power Supply
Ja, the nice thing about most switching supplies like I use is that they just don't start up if overloaded or shorted and just shut down if overloaded suddenly, and live for another day - can't beat them in my opinion. It's only really if you are charging more than three cell LiPos that the current the charger draws starts to rise much above the charge current. My little Triton Jr. seems very efficient, even charges my cordless drill battery up to just over 22volts happily off the 12volt supply I've mentioned. Hardly ever use my 3,5 to 4 Amp supply I have. Just my experience.
P.S. OK. I just looked at the C/T URL and yes, that is very likely a switching supply and capable of as much as 4Amps - my daughter has one for her cooler - I see St.Marys C/T has one - uhmmm! You can usually tell by the weight! The output may possibly not be clean DC so may upset some fancy chargers. Last edited by Spitball; 05-21-2009 at 05:37 PM. |

Re: Cool Idea for Power Supply
Ya I like to experiment with all kinds of neat stuff, I would like to build another PC power supply but I will wait until I have a computer that dies on me before I do that. Spitball, the supply I have is a coleman and ya its pretty heavy and my triton jr seems not to mind it so I will run with it. The biggest thing I charge anyway is a 3S 1800 mAh lipo for my extra 260 anyway.

Re: Cool Idea for Power Supply
It's probably ideal for the Triton Jr. - obviously a good buy, and an ideal combo for charging that size pack IMO. If it's heavy it uses a power transformer and so would not put out any high frequency hash or spikes.
Hmmm, now if I get to go to town.... |
