my charger wont do it!

hello.

i have a DTX Piranha peak charger (the cheapest thing possible ) and its able to go up to 5A charge. BUT, i hook up my 3600 Nimh 6 cell, 5A charge and when it charges only 3A is applied !!!! what gives ? why will it only do 3A when i put in 5A ?

What are you powering the charger with? Could it be a limitation of that power supply?

it also could be u have to discharge ur batterys amy buddies batterys were liek tht he was charging at like 2A and tht was the problem

The built in power supply has limitation and can't go higher then 3a.

Go directly to your car battery and watch your charger do 5a. Or get a good 15+amp power supply.

Wow.

Talk about misleading specmanship by a manufacturer.

If you're going to advertise a charger as being rated at 5 amps, it should be capable of doing that irrespective of how it is powered.

So the moral to all of us is to read the specs VERY carefully.

BTW, a 15 amp power supply is not necessary. Most of these chargers are fairly efficient and don't draw much more current than the charging current.

Case in point: my power supply spec'd at 7A continuous is capable at powering my 2 chargers simultaneously running at charge rates of about 3.2A.

It's true, I have the same charger.
Use a 12 volt power source and you will then be able to charge above 3 amps (up to 5 amps).
