Bi Plane Wing Loading

Hi Guys;

I just finished final fitting and assembly of my 1/5th Pica Bucker Jungmeister. It's been a major rebuild. It has come in at about 13 lbs which gives it a wing loading of 29oz/sg ft.

I did a full up job on it with strobe lights/landing lights/smoke system/dummy radial/wheel pants. I've said it's going to be my air show plane. You know, I seem to have nothing better to do with my time and money.

I am powering it with a Saito 100, and going to start with a 15x8 APC prop.

This is my final fit before I cover it with Ultra coat. I have a chance to do some more sanding, lightening holes etc, but I doubt that I can shave more than a couple ounces. I don't have much biplane experience.

I'd like some comments on expected flight performance please.

I'm not sure what kind of performance your looking for but a Saito 100 in a 13 lb. bipe ? I had a Saito 100 in an 11 lb. Spacewalker and had to yank it and install an OS 120.

A 15 - 8 prop is also way too much for a 100. I used a 15 - 6. I tried a 14 - 8 once and it dragged it down to 8800. A 15 - 8 would be around 8000.

Then again maybe you'll be perfectly happy with the set up.

Thanks Don;

I've got a 1/4 Sig Spacewalker II with a 150 Saito which is way too much. I had it in stock. The spacewalker has a real big wing and a huge front end. The Jungmeister wing is narrower and it is a differrent chord for sure. I need some actual biplane flyers input.

I am not expecting unlimited verticles or hovering for sure, but some big cuban 8's, snap rolls, tail slides, knife edge performance will make me happy. I may have to move up to the new Saito 125. Heard anything about it??

Biplanes have a lot of drag
just keep your speed up while turning ( Pulling up elevator ) at low power setting, My EAA bipe at 12.5 lbs flew ok with a Saito 100 but would snap on me easily at low power, great flyer otherwise
keep power up for landings at least 1/3 for approach. reduce at flair
they slow down realy quick. do not stretch glide without power.
the lighter they are the better they are,
My Super aero master with Magnum 91 4 st is fabulus at 9 lbs 6 ounces
I love bipes have 5 of them

I guess we all have different expectations. I had a Goldberg Ultimate / OS 1.08 for years that at 9 lbs. was under powered. I have a 10 lb. mono plane with a piped YS 1.40 in it that is just about right

Have fun

I suspect you will experience a very realistic flying aircraft with that wing loading / power combination. I think you'll be fine if this is what you're aiming for and you know how to fly "on the wing" not the prop.

I'm currently building a Pica 1/5 Waco that I'm planning on powering with an OS 1.20 4 stroke. This is similar in size and weight and, based my experience with my last Waco, should be very scale like, with some in reserve.

On the other hand, my CG Ultimate sports a TT 1.20 2 stroke.... power management is critical if I plan to keep all surfaces attached (and I do).

How's that covering coming on that WACO Jim???

Cool looking bipe (for a multi-winged thingy ) John. Hope to see it at a few scale events. Always good to see a variety of planes!
