Ya, Joe smith has one and it flys good. This is the Q80 6L. about 7500 watts swinging a 27x10 @ about 6800 rpm
This is why I am keeping it light.

Joe flies at sea level though.
Which batteries are you going to use?

Re: 3DHS 103" extra Q80 Foamy!!!

I think joe flys all over the place. But I will check how warm the motor after the first flight.
Anybody got a 175 amp meter?

I have some nanotech 8000mh 6s batteries as well as some zippy compact 5000 6s batteries.

I use 1 5000 for a 30cc plane, two for a 50cc plane and 4 for a 100cc plane totaling 10000 mah

We will see how it works. should maiden within the week if everything goes right

Re: 3DHS 103" extra Q80 Foamy!!!

Got the Servos mounted in the wings and elevators. I will wait to see where the rudder servo should mount for best cg with the batteries and motor installed

The Savox servos fit in the wings without modification. I had to file the servo holes bigger in the elevators about 1mm in each direction.

Don't forget to put ca on the wood and in the holes to make the wood strong enough. Especially important when using one servo per wing. Everything must be solid

On the wings I used TDRC 18" 100 strand 20 AWG servo wires. Pilots like joe smith use these and have stopped servo glitching in some cases.

You will need to replace the 5/8" 4-40 bolts with 3/4" 4-40 bolts if using swb 2" arms

Here is a video of Joe flying this plane, same scheme.

He makes it dance gracefully, and also beats on it mercilessly LOL

It is a very capable airframe

Re: 3DHS 103" extra Q80 Foamy!!!

Well got 12 flights in on the weekend and ate turkey and ham twice. Almost too full to build LOL

Put everything on the plane and decided I should be able to put the rudder servo in the back

Installed the rudder servo in the back of the plane. The Savox 2230 servo fit the hole like a glove. Make sure to ca the holes and a little on the screw when installing. Flatten out the screws as there is lots of wires behind this servo and don't want to strip any wire

Programmed all the servos to the receiver. Sure is easy when only using 5 servos

Almost forgot......used the 1 3/4 inch servo arm hole for ailerons and 2" hole for elevators and rudder to get to max recommended deflection

Re: 3DHS 103" extra Q80 Foamy!!!

Added two pieces of balsa to this former....the other formers had this but this one did not. Because I tend to hit this former when pulling battery wires apart before and after each flight I thought I better make this area stronger. Might pick up a little bit of carbon fiber for this as well
