I have been a thumber for 8 years, but confess to being a wannabe tweaker. I am trying to train myself to use thumb and finger but still find it awkward. With thumbs only I have a lot of expo dialed in (helps with the nerves in contests) but I find it is too much expo when tweaking. I like Sam's hybrid version and may give that a try as it makes a lot of sense to me to want fine control on the right stick but freedom to rudder correct quickly on the left stick. Something to try anyway.

Niel,

I actually did that with my DX7 last season, as soon as I got it and I wasn't even flying helis. After a year and half I don't think I could ever go back to a ratchet throttle again!

When I bought my 9303 to replace my DX7 I actually bought the Heli verssion for the ratchet reason.. and one more 3 position switch over the aircraft model!

Started out with only thumbs then was encouraged to try finger and thumb and prefer tweaking now. All with a strap. I just find when bangin the sticks ( half a** 3d) I struggle with hitting the corners easily and consistently. Part of the learning curve I guess. Stiff sticks let me feel the center more easily.

Re: Are you a thumber or a tweaker?

Tweaking is coming along swimmingly As a bonus I was previously getting sore wrists from the angle I was holding the TX. Now with the new position my wrists are aligned with the TX and no more wrist problems!

I am also finding that getting more discreet inputs is possible with this method....a keeper!

Re: Are you a thumber or a tweaker?

When I learned to fly living in Northern Ontario, Kirkland Lake area, my instructor taught me to fly with thumb and finger on the sticks. He use to smack me across the knuckles if he saw me flying with just thumbs.

He use to say" Try using the stick with a thumb only and make a perfect circle with the stick. Almost impossible with just thumb." He claimed, and I believe it to be so, that with thumb and finger one has absolutely more precise control. You can feel the stick tension more finitely in all directions, which is far more difficult with just thumbs.

So, according to your poll question, I guess I am a "Tweaker" all the way!
