Battery Analysis after 10 min main.

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
FYI, My results:

2wd RB5 - 10.5 motor with 25 pinion used 1500 mah for 10 minutes of racing
4wd BJ4 - 7.5 motor with 19 pinion used 2500 mah for 10 minutes of racing

Pretty awesome if you think about how much the tech has improved. With Brushless and Li-Po.

If someone with a Truck setup could post their results, I would assume around 2000?

The next big race will have 20 Minute Truck A-Mains! From the looks of it, trucks should be needing 3000 to 4000 mah batteries to make it no problem.

run time

(slightly off topic..)

I ran my XXXT-CR with a 8000 maH pack at fastcats during open practise for slightly over 50 min. (Mamba 4600kV) motor was 176 degrees.

A.V. by "topping up" the charge after the race or the next day and reading how many mAh the battery accepted to get back to a full charge.

10 Minute Main I used:
2wd Buggy 8.5T 2000 mAh
4wd Buggy 6.5T 2500 mAh

Truck: T4, Mamba 4600, 5000mah Lipo.

The Mamba was "detuned" to run at almost minimum setting. After 8 minutes the motor was just warm to the touch.

The battery took 3200mah to recharge.

Is it OK to "top off" NiMh between racing without discharging them to almost 0 Mah?

It is probably not "best case scenario" to dishcharge a Ni-MH battery to the 0-mah level.

You should run the pack until you can feel it loosing a bit of power, or 6/7 minutes, or discharge it using an appropriate discharger.

Check with the battery manufacturer for appropriate discharge threshold.

What sort of equipment are you utilizing for discharge?

Here is a link to some frequently asked questions regardging batteries:

http://www.promatchracing.com/faq.php

Topping off your batteries is probably not an issue, and is probably not causing any damage to the cells, but it is probably "best practice" to discharge them equally (each cell) to a specific level, and then re-charge them.

There are a few people that can probably offer better advice through. I'm still in the learning stage myself.

I've always re-topped up my nimh batteries without issue.

People used to discharge, balance, then re-peak and time it for the next race. It would give you a slight advantage. However now with Lipo's all that is basically history.
