Bob Hudson Award - nominations deadline Aug 12
Hi everyone,
This is the 6th year that the Bob Hudson Canadian Scale Aerobatics Award will be awarded. Nominations will be accepted until August 12, 2013. The nomination process and criteria stay the same as last year. I have posted it on the front page of www.ScaleAerobaticsCanada.com and it is reproduced here for your convenience. Please take the time to nominate someone who is contributing to our community - all nominees will be recognized at the Nats banquet, when the recipient is announced. Isabel * * * * * Bob Hudson Scale Aerobatics Achievement Award The "Bob Hudson Achievement Award for Canadian Scale Aerobatics" was created in 2008 to acknowledge achievements made by Canadian Scale Aerobatic pilots. The inaugural award was presented to Bob Hudson himself by Sam Filipelli in August 2008 during the Canadian Scale Aerobatic Nationals banquet in Sudbury. Through his efforts Bob was instrumental helping to organize the Scale Aerobatic community in Canada. The seed which he planted was nurtured by many and has grown into the strong aerobatic community we now enjoy today. Nomination packages for 2013 will be accepted until August 12, 2013 Anyone may nominate someone by sending the following to the chair of the Scale Aerobatics committee by email (Isabel.deslauriers@mail.mcgill.ca) by submitting a nomination letter (up to 2 pages) and up to 2 reference letters (up to 2 pages each) written by others, both addressing the award criteria outlined below. The nominee may be consulted while choosing the referees and drafting the nomination, however, the responsibility to submit the nomination package lies with the nominator. The Scale Aerobatics committee members will review the nominations and vote on a recipient. The chair will have a tie-breaking vote if necessary. The recipient will be announced at the banquet of the Scale Aerobatic Nats. Anyone participating in the Scale Aerobatics community in Canada in some way may be nominated. Past winners and the current Scale Aerobatics chair (due to nomination process oversight) are not eligible for nomination. Scale Aerobatics committee members may be nominated but will be required to abstain from the voting process if they are a candidate. Joint nominees may be suggested if their achievements are themselves joint. Award criteria (must be addressed in application and reference letters) (i) Worth 90% of the total score: "Contribution to building a strong scale aerobatics community in their region and in Canada" Examples (NOT an exhaustive list): Promoting scale aerobatics to the RC community and to the general public Recruiting new competitors Demonstrating efforts to raise the standards of judging and flying Hosting high quality contests and seminars Participating in the online and in-person community Making efforts to participate in contests in Canada beyond their immediate region (ii) Worth 10% of total score: "Personal achievement in scale aerobatics": Examples (NOT an exhaustive list): Personal achievement and/or improvement in scale aerobatics Dedication to scale aerobatics Setting an example for other pilots Sportsmanship Past winners of the Bob Hudson Scale Aerobatics Achievement Award: 2008: Bob Hudson 2009: Isabel Deslauriers & Ray Buyukgurel 2010: Jim Daly 2011: Yves Lemire 2012: Rick Kroeze, runner-up Gary Robertson * * * * * If you have any questions about the nomination process please let me know! Re: Bob Hudson Award - nominations deadline Aug 12
While it was an honor to be nominated, I was so happy to see Joy receive the Bob Hudson award in both her and Ted's honor. There were tears all around as we all miss Ted very much and it took Joy great courage to get up and accept the award.
For those of you who didn't know, Ted Barette passed away suddenly in March which shook us all as to the fragility of life, but he and Joy made a tremendous contribution to IMAC in Canada. They were both involved not only in hosting seminars, but also in working with the IMAC BOD itself in the development of sequences, rules and changes to make this such a dynamic and challenging sport. It was so great having Joy at this years Nats and having her call for my Advanced Unknowns (on very short notice!) was an honor. Great people and Ted will always be in our hearts.
