Newbie to electric flight - HELP please!

Hi, please bear with me, I'm fairly new to electric flight, made the transition over with a couple electric heli's, but now I want to convert an old friend to electric power. It's my dynaflite piece o cake glider, which is currently powered by an .049 cox. I've read you can power it with an 05 electric on 7-8 nimh cells but not sure where to start. I would also prefer to use Lipo's over Nimh batteries. Anyone have any suggestion where to start? motor, battery, ecs, prop?, any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Scott

This should power it nicely. Max is 18A.
Adequate power and good effieiciency.

If you want more, this one has a little more balls pulling 25A:

In either case, both run better on GWS 8-6 props

For batteries, your best bet is anywhere from 1000mah 3s to 1700mah 3s Depending on how much weight you can carry. For now I suggest a 1300mah pack, that should run you about 10min/flight

(and dont forget your battery connectors from the ESC to the battery- the HK batteries come with the XT60 connectors, you will need at least 1 male for the ESC, and another for your charger lead.)

Dont forget to buy some motor/ESC leads, if you dont already have them:

Hmmm, seems prop clearance is an issue with this plane according to the RCG thread. The TP2410-08 that was recommended by Max uses a 9 or 10" prop. Be sure you have enough room.

You may wish to look at a higher KV motor:

TP2410-12, works with 8 and 9" props:

PowerUp 400 Sport, works with 8" props:

Or my favorite, the Infinite series from OKHobby. I have several of these motors and highly recommend them.

Infinite A2209-1160, works with 8" props:

Re: Newbie to electric flight - HELP please!

Personally, I am not a big fan of the TowerPro bell motors, they are cheap but not very well built. Rear bearings have been problematic for me (I went through at least 2 every season), the motor shafts bend far too easily, and the bells are horribly out of round.

My personal pick for motors is the Infinite A2209-1160. I have 5 of them in my fleet from the tiny A1705-1800 up to the A2209-1160. All very strong and smooth running.

The Infinite line of ESC's are decent too. Interesting note: Infinite, Common Sense RC Z-Series, and the now discontinued Hyperion Titan are all the same ESC's, just re-branded!

I use Scorpion from Innov8tive.com out of the US and he will ship USPS First Class ( cheapest) High quality and very efficient motors. From what I have read they have the highest specs out there.

Very much into the aftermarket service which is hard to find these days. From what I have read they have the highest specs out there.
