Well, it's raining today, so no gardening, hid myself in my workshop, actually got it cleaned up, I can finally see the top of the work bench. So, worked on GE Arrow, got the canopy and turtle deck all scribed and ready door moulding. Looks pretty good and accurate.

Also started the sculpting procedure for both intakes, God bless Bondo.

Just finished cutting out the rudder and lower fairing from the vertical fin. Added the required balsa caps to bring it back to proper dimension. Will wait until tomorrow to sand them flush as the 15 min epoxy seems to take a few hours before you can sand it. So, lots to do tomorrow, would like to get the intakes sculpted and the first coat of polyester resin on them and the vertical fin.

Vertical fin has had the polyester resin applied and sanded. Had issues with the resin curing, in certain spots, the resin just took a day or two to harden up. Figured it was the hardener being too old so switched to a fresh bottle, kicked the amount up a bit, seemed to work. Didn't add the blisters for the lights at the top of the fin on the trailing edge. Will do that on the actual fin after it comes out of the moulds so I can made metal fairings, would like to install bright LED lights.

One side has the panel lines mapped out. Will apply the .75 mm wide chart tape this afternoon and get the polyester primer on it tonight.

For those who are still doing their own finishing and are looking for chart tape, I get it from England, company is called Jammydog. They have it as fine as .5 mm wide to larger widths. I'll be using .75 mm for this so it'll match up to the scribed lines on the fuselage.

Oh, and it's very inexpensive and delivery is pretty quick.

There will always be that thread of hope amongst us aviation enthusiasts.

My project got stalled temporarily. My daughter's wedding took front row seat for a couple of months. Didn't realize the amount of planning for these special events, or the costs. Also, my wife and I spend the winter in Palm Desert so everything for this and another big project had to be packed up and brought to Palm Desert. I'm in the process on building a roll around work table so I can continue with these projects.

I'll post pictures once I get back at it. The only items that need finishing are the two intake sections, then its mouldings time.

John , you are probably aware of it but sometimes the polyester resin won't up very fast is because of the lack of wax in the resin as it may have settled out in the can. Mix well if sitting for any length of time. Haven't heard of the MEK getting old but may have been moisture in it , just slightly ? The other thing again you are probably aware , polyester only goes over 5 minute epoxy and sets up; ask me how I know...lol... Haven't used it since I found Zepoxy finishing resin. Can't wait for more build pictures and progress reports....lookin good .

Yes, have had some very good discussions about the Arrow being way ahead of it's time with our cousins across the line and can understand their "USAF line of thinking" and why the pressures of cancelling the program by Dief. There are many aircraft designed in the US way back that were built in Canada under liscence and improved on, that flew better. That was from US pilots that flew our built aircraft but their design.

Thanks for the advise Len, I bought the 5 gallons of resin in July, so I will need to mix it up, even though I haven't opened the container.

We do seem to have the talent to improve stuff, the Sabre F-86 Mk 6 was the best of the lot, powered by an Orenda turbine, it was the fastest version and most maneuverable I think. Canadair also souped up the Starfighter and the Freedom Fighter I believe.

As a ha ha, I proposed to my bud that we build a 1/5th scale foam Arrow, it would be 187" long. I would use 120mm EDF units, RC Lander has 120 units ready to go that can generate 8000 watts each. It think foam and turbines might be a melting hazard so the EDF way would be the most practical way to go.
