Center of Gravity?

We are still talking about the Revolution Hover Star from about 1980 some where. Every real helicopter I have seen land the back of the skids always hit first when landing. Our library has a hard cover book on Heli's and it says the front of the skids should hit first when I hang it from the fly bar. The other .60 size heli hangs level when pick up by the fly bar. This one hangs about 5 deg. nose up. The main shaft is angled back slightly. What is right?

Re: Center of Gravity?

For a heli who's shaft is straight vertical, it should balance level when hung from the main shaft.

If the main shaft has been angled back, then the heli should balance with the body offset to the same angle of the main-shaft offset angle.

Edit: Don't worry about it being slightly nose-heavy. After I posted the above, I recall my first few Fixed-pitch heli's were never balanced spot on. They were always slightly nose-heavy and they seemed to fly just fine.

Re: Center of Gravity?

I finished the rest of the instillations and installed the cockpit bubble and it seems to balance right on the main shaft. I did not think the plastic bubble would make that much difference. An engine run without the blades is the next step. The bubble was starting to crack on both lower corners and at the top. I glued some clear plastic strips over the cracks with canopy glue and across the bottom rear I bent some soft aluminum tube to fit across there and glued it in with Gorilla glue, this made it much stiffer.

Re: Center of Gravity?

This is rigid rotor and fixed pitch. I think it is already to go, but I need more practice
