Re: Scammed? Greeekt
No problem... I must admit, I was originally fooled... saw what I thought were some good deals... thought we were all hobbyists and a good group. Forgot how easy it is for an idiot to come in and wreck everything.

Re: Scammed? Greeekt
They are a tricky lot and hard to notice at times but if it sounds like to good of a deal it usually is... BUT that being said, one should never assume all new members are bad and out to scam someone, most are good but always proceed with caution and ask lots of questions. If the deal doesn't sound right, walk away and save your money.
It is tough to buy and sell on the forums as a new member now a days... But if they are actively involved in threads outside of the classifieds, we get to know them and become comfortable around them.

Re: Scammed? Greeekt
Yup... I hear ya. Gotta put my profiling goggles back on from my fraud analyst days. We were always told not to profile people (moral reasons), but sadly, suspicions were often more right than they were wrong. We had a 0.8% loss rate due to fraud and when Bank of America/MBNA took over, they said that was crazy and that 10% was acceptable. .

Re: Scammed? Greeekt
I'm sure this will be the next evolution of these criminals (posting etc), but how much time will they invest into these scams? I'm surprised this guy went through all this trouble already to make 350bux. If he invested this much time in other legitimate ways i'm sure he could have a salary or small business just like the rest of us.
I cant dismiss the thought of this money going to a terrorist group or some other underground entity that is unable to integrate properly with the Western world. |

Re: Scammed? Greeekt
Not defending anyone or taking sides but I view the adds on any forum the same way as the adds in the newspaper or some place like kajiji. Buyer beware. There are absolutely no guarantees. I don’t see how one can hold a forum or its members/owners responsible in any way for a private deal you make. You do so fully knowing there are risks. On every site I participate in it’s the same complaints. On one hand banning someone before proof of actual scamming gets you labeled a heavy handed forum Nazi. On the other hand if someone gets scammed because they didn’t exercise the best judgment they often look for someone to place the blame on.
I’m tired of this nanny state mentality where it’s always someone else’s fault. Take responsibility for your own actions fer crying out loud. If you not willing to accept the risk then go to the hobby shop and buy new from a person face to face. Even new purchases from an on line store will have a degree of risk. The least amount of risk is where you examine the item in person then hand over your hard earned cash once your satisfied your getting what you paid for. The further you distance yourself from this the greater the risk you have to assume. From a sellers perspective the only way I do business is cash in hand first before I mail the item off. Postal money order preferred or certified cheque is the only thing I accept. In return you get priority post with free insurance up to $100 value and tracking number. This is non negotiable and if not to your satisfaction no hard feelings feel free to shop else where. I don't buy much on the forums, eBay, kajiji etc so when I do if it is a high value item the transaction will have to be in person. If it’s a small ticket item then I have to weigh if I can live with the possibility of being disappointed or loss of my money. Dennis |

Re: Scammed? Greeekt
I would agree with that to an extent. I've done EMT payments before, but only to members who have been around for a long time and have a history of good feedback. Other then that I only use paypal or cash in hand.
