On that works off a 12 v power supply is fine. Also if you are in Ottawa that would be a plus

There are many good chargers out there.

Bowse the net to find some that suit your needs.
I prefer a built in balancer for LiPo, LiIo, LiFeMn batteries.

Mximum charge rates might also be a factor.

Do your research first.

Great thanks Ken. Are LiFe and A123 the same chemistry? Do they require balancing just like LiPos? Any suggestion of good fairly cheap chargers will be appreciated. Triton Jr dosen't do A123 or LiFe does it?

There are 3 that come to mind. They are all fairly new and charge all the chemistries you listed and then some.
The new
Thunder Power THP610C
Cellpro 4s
Venom Pro Charger VEN-0656

They are all around the same price range of about $129

if you were going to the Cellpro 4 go ahead and get the 10 because it is much better and will help more in the long run!

Re: Looking for a good Lipo/LiFe/A123/NiMH charger/balancer

I like the looks of the Venome DC Pro....it charges down to 0.1 Amp and I have some single cells for a DLG I like to beable to charge on one system. Dynamic Hobbies can get it in for $130, but I saw it at Tower Hobbies for $109...I'm so used to getting things for US$ par these days....any ideas where else I can try in Ottawa?

Re: Looking for a good Lipo/LiFe/A123/NiMH charger/balancer

There are many different cells out there that use the same chemistry as genuine A123 cells have.

Genuine A123 cells are different as they have a patented process called NANO TECHNOLOGY.

ONE OF THE MOST STRIKING FEATURE OF THESE CELLS IS THEIR EXTREMELY HIGH CONTINUOUS AMP OUTPUT

Here is spec sheet as posted on the A123 Systems site.
I have bolded the text in some areas.

Nominal capacity and voltage 2.3 Ah, 3.3 V
Internal impedance (1kHz AC) 8 m1 typical
Internal resistance (10A, 1s DC) 10 m1 typical
Recommended standard charge method 3A to 3.6V CCCV, 45 min
Recommended fast charge current 10A to 3.6V CCCV, 15 min
Maximum continuous discharge 70A
Pulse discharge at 10 sec 120A
Cycle life at 10C discharge, 100% DOD Over 1,000 cycles
Recommended pulse charge/discharge cutoff 3.8V to 1.6V
Operating temperature range -30°C to +60°C
Storage temperature range -50°C to +60°C
Core cell weight 70 grams

At the current time I only know of 3 sources for these cells

1. A123 Systems
2. Dewalt Power tool Lithium Nano technology batteries (2300 ma.)
3. Black and Decker VPX batteries. (1100 ma.)

There will likely be other sources for these cells.
Current best price at retail level I know of is Sears online shopping site at $199 for an 18 volt (10 cell pack). Dewalt tool repair centres should have them at the same price.

NOTE: The B & D VPX cells have lower output current due to their smaller size.

If you want your cells for electric flight the genuine A123 cells give the best performance.

Where you want them for radio and servos you may want to use "copy cat" cells with the same chemistry that have lower amp output and may cost less money and are available in ready made packs. You might also use regular Lithium Ion cells as the Voltage curve isn't as flat and is more suitable for the use of a low voltage warning device.

Re: Looking for a good Lipo/LiFe/A123/NiMH charger/balancer

Check out the GT Power chargers.

Charges pretty well all batteries.
2 models available.
Built in balancer for 6 or 8 lipos or A123 cells
Reasonably priced.

Not to mention the fact that it comes with a balancer that is good for LiPo and a123 ( you don't need to purchase it seperately )
It also comes with every adapter you can think of to charge every battery out there.
