Large scale gas powered truck

Hey guys, I'm newish to the board and wanted to post one of my ongoing projects. When it's done it will be a monster truck powered by a 28 cc leafblower engine (it's all I had lying around the garage...). I'll post pics, but wanted to first ask:

How long do you think the T-Maxx tranny (F/R) I'm using will last? It'll weigh in at about 30 pounds when completed, so maybe 10 minutes?

I agree with that, a small nitro engine can rip the plastic gears to shreads pretty damn fast, as soon as you nail the gas that tranny is gone

tmaxx tranny? a stock tmaxx tranny cany handle a bigblock nitro engine. use #25 chains and sproket, they will last. as for diffs buy some fg ones or figure out how to make some yourself, or run a solid axle, so no diffs.

Hmph...this is bad news. I suppose I'll be investing in an FOC afterwards then..which goes against my whole motivation for using a T-Maxx tranny: cheap(ish) and has reverse. Well, I'll try it out soon and let everyone know if plastic bits fly everywhere, and how fast. Sadly,

Fabiano.

YAAAAAAHAHA !! solid axle ! if its the right steel, just weld your spider gears to the axle gears (w/e those ones are called.) with a solid axle, itl be awsome offroading, the only way your stuck in the mud is if you bottom the chassis.
BTW, do you think that if you ran very very hard compound slicks that you might save the tranny for about 1 tank ? because right now we all assume that the tranny is the weakest link, but if you make your traction the weakest link itl save some breaking. does that make sence ?

Check out RC universe under large scale. There are several guys there that can help you out. I think there's a guy who did that to a T-maxx with a 23CC engine as well.

Thanks for the input again guys. So I took the prototype on a test drive today - no plastic bits flew at me but here's my impression:

- Way too slow
- Tranny engages when the engine is ~ > 1/2 throttle
- Tranny gets stuck between forward and reverse

Alone, these could all actually be fixed by gearing, but I'm looking for a sturdier fix (see below).

Gremlin: I was looking for a more long term tranny saver solution, but slicks might help...although I could just run nice tires and ease up on the slipper to still have good braking.

Selwa: Thanks, I took a peak at the Maxx Gasser and it's more or less what I had in mind. I believe his latest mod was with a Zenoah engine, T-Maxx FOC tranny with 4WD. I don't know how he gets the tranny to last so long operating at those speeds with such a heavier load than it's designed for.

Personally I believe I'm going to scrap the T-Maxx tranny since it's only useful purpose (reverse) is not applicable anymore. A more direct drive will be implemented, 4WD of course.
