New Carden Yak ARF!!!

Check this out! Carden has combined with Horizon to produce a 50cc version of the Carden Yak!

Never thought I'd see the day, if the construction and quality are typical Carden, I can hardly wait! Guess I may be keeping that Taurus 52 in "engines for sale" afterall

Wow!

Says Carden on the side but those photos YELL ARF all the way, not typical Carden construction from what I have seen.

18.5 lbs is a strain for a 50cc though.

carden yak

Hi Jim,

Not sure what you mean by "not typical Carden construction". From what I can see in the pics, fuse looks like a truss build, solid balsa sides, foam belly pan and turtle deck are all Carden's style. Wings are foam core too!

The engine box looks like Carden's new laser lightened version that is available for some of their 40%er's.

I agree 18.5lbs is heavy for 50cc but that's what they're calling for at the high end. Lots of Extreme Flight and especially Aeroworks 50cc yaks out there claiming 16lbs but, well over 18lbs in reality

I thought I read 17lbs with an 89" wing... even at say 17.5 on that much wing I'm sure it will rock. Look forward to seeing more releases.

Like you've ever owned a Carden!

This will be a beauty! If this works out for us we'll get a great plane at a great price! Greathobbies will carry all the new planes horrizon and Carden will come up with!..good news! for sure!

This Yak scheme first came out in 2005' when JR pilot David Payne built his Carden 37% yak 54!

And i have loved it ever since!! had it as a home screen for awhile! I guess dreams do come true!

gotta have one!

Jim, I was thinking the same thing. I remember Ron M's Laser at almost 19lbs with a DA50. Nice flying airplane but needed more umphhh for sure!

Probably should go with a ZDZ 60 as it probably does need a bit more power for sure. Its not an Aeroworks Yak but it should do the job!

Guys,

I was not knocking the thing just stating what I saw from the pics in their link.

Mike, NO I have not seen the newer Laser cut boxes I was going buy the dozen or so Cardens I have looked at over the past 5 years of IMAC.

I do like the foam wing for sure and the colour scheme rocks.

The price is right there as well. Wonder if these will be in the Carden or H9 booth at Toledo?

Manny - Yeah I wiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssshhhhhh I owned a Carden but it urks me that they leave out one of the most prominent features of a Yak... the cowl louvers. I DESPISE the smooth cowl... even QQ's pattern Yak has louvers.

This is as exactly taken from the Horizon Hobbies website. According to these specs, its calling for a 60cc at the top end, not 50cc as has been said, 50cc would be a bit strained! 60cc would be awsome:

At Hangar 9 and Carden Aircraft, we know how you want them to fly—and nothing less than first class is acceptable.
Specs
Wing Span:89 in (226.1 cm)
Overall Length:84 in (213.4 cm)
Wing Area:1434 sq in (92.8 sq dm)
Flying Weight:16.75–18.5 lb (7.6–8.4 kg)
Engine Size:45–60cc gas
Radio:4+ channels
Servos:6 servos

I agree with your estimation of the weight but I doubt that the AW Yak would be 2 lbs heavier than the specs say. Most ARFs usually are at the top end there too, if not close to up to a pound heavier. Using a 60cc, like the ZDZ 60, I'm sure you'd see this Cardin ARF topping close to 19 - 19 1/2 lb mark, especially with all the extra goodies guys love to include in the fuse - power boxes, regulators, dual battery packs, dual switches and Rx's, onboard volt meters etc etc.

I have never owned a Cardin airplane but I do know Hangar 9's quality and if this is up to their usual standards, it will be a very well built and easy to assemble model and should be an awsome plane to fly!

I'm going to do a build thread on my AW Yak 54 and promise to record the exact accurate weight all up ready to fly, and we shall see if your estimate of 2lbs heavier than spec'd is accurate or not.

Looks very similar to carden construction, foam sheeted with balsa and trusses, this motor box is laser cut with what looks like (arf 3 ply). Carden's new motor boxes for their kits are 5 ply and 7 ply, CNC ROUTER CUT no burn marks clean cut edges, using a different kind of plywood. The new boxes are very nice, I have one for my 40% extra 300 build.
