Good Day.

I've decided I'm joing a club in the new year and getting the slimer's out again.

So I'm back to out fitting and dusting off my field box

right now in it i have

Small tools
Glow plug wrench
hand crank fuel pump
2 clo starter batteries,
Spare glow plugs
Spare propeller
Prop wrench.
Chicken stick.
Jug of fuel (4 years old how do i properly dispose of this)

How important is a power panel and electric pump, electric starter I seem to bave good luck with the fingers (yes i have all 9)
How many of you guys/girls use the power panel for the glow plug battery?

any thing ive overlooked or you feel is essential let me know, I'm sure this will help others as well

thanks

Smile Re: Field Box

I used to have a power panel, but haven't had to need for one for a couple of years now. Seems like you are just about ready to go. As far as the fuel, I have fuel a couple of years old, now that I run mostly gas I don't burn very much glo, so it lastes me a very long time. I have not yet noticed the fuel go bad, so burn it see how it runs. If the engine won't run on that old fuel then consider getting rid of the fuel and get some new stuff. Hope this helps and happy flying. Only real extra item I have is a Tachometer(I used it on everything from gasser, nitro planes and heli), that's about it.

Maybe a battery checker, that's all I can think of.

Wilki

Thanks I will give the glo fuel a try.
As for battery checker I actually own one, I probably should put it in the box

The Power panel and electric fuel pump are just bling and not nescessary.

A good glow stick or two will work just fine. Hand crank pump also is good enough.

I do use an electric starter all the time as I have one hell of a time to chicken stick anything and like my fingers where they are, but if you can live without one, fine (electric starter that is)!!!

A tester to check the RX batteries is a nescessity for me.

A tach is not nescesary, but may make tuning easier for some.

If your fuel is old and not good to burn anymore, just keep it around to soak old sticky glow motors in. It does still serve a purpose.

Oh, and since they are slimers..... a good cleaner and lots of towels!!

Cheers
Curt

Re: Field Box

An item that I never really considered as a field kit item, came up in discussion at our club fall meeting today. A small fire extinguisher. I'm going to keep my eye on the sales, and pick one up for next season.

Roscoe

I never thought of a small fire extinguisher, or maybe a small first aid kit for when the prop jumps out and hits the finger

Re: Field Box

As for your fuel, if it was well sealed it should be OK. I just finished off a 3/4 full jug of fuel my son had stored in his garden shed for six or seven years. It was well sealed and it burned just like the new stuff I used before and after it, I did not notice ANY difference.

I keep a small fire extinguisher and a first aid kit with me, and there's a fire extinguisher at the field now. With gassers getting mor popular, and the lipo fires it's just a good idea.

I have been trying to make my field kit as user friendly as possibal and now bring 3 "Boxes" to the field with me.

The first box is the "Essentials". It's a small(ish) box similer to a tackle box, and in it there is a starter, chicken stick, couple glow drivers and a glove (for starting the gassers), along with my fuel pump (hand cranker) and a box of rubber bands (for the combat planes)

Box#2 is for charging. It's a bit bigger plastic tool box from CT, and contains a couple chargers built into the lid, a cycler and all the goodies to go with it.

Box #3 is the "Tool Box" and it's the biggest, one of those 3 in 1 stacked jobs with wheels and a handle, that's where all the tools, spare parts, props, and all the other stuff gets put. If all goes well at the field, I don't need to open that one but if I need any repairs or "Tweeks" thats where all the goodies are.

You never have enough tools, but where do you draw the line?

Bill

Re: Field Box

My Dad found a jug of 10% out in his shop that dated from 1994! I used it this summer and it ran great! As long as it is sealed tight there should e no problem!
