Re: Brian Taylor Spitfire Build

Good reminder Struts, for me to dig out the 1/4 Spit plans, and see who made them. I have all the templates on the bench, so can lay them out this weekend, and figure out what a short kit will run! Love any Spit build, so I'm in for sure to see Randy's bird. I've got 3 now, the TF Spit, the Dave Platt 1/5th, then the 1/4. One of the larger ones will be Buzz Beurling's last Mk IX, and I might do a .60 sized build of his Mk V. The other larger one, I'm still trying to decide. I like Johnnie Johnson's Mk IX, and I was honoured enough to meet the man, many years ago. Hence my wanting to do Galland's Me-109, and his ME-262, as I met him once as well. Great advantage having been posted to Germany for 4 years!

Re: Brian Taylor Spitfire Build

Excellent. Broke out the templates for the 1/4 Spit, cut half of the fuse bulkheads last night. Soon as I win the lottery, I'll figure out engine and retracts! lol

Re: Brian Taylor Spitfire Build

Ever see the 1:1 scale of K5054, it was done in Europe, flew with a Jaguar V-12 in it. Sadly, after a bad landing, but with minimal damage, while the pilot was making arrangements to have it towed, the airport folks came out and sawed it in half, to get it clear of the runway. Tragic. Hmm, maybe once I do the 1:1 Hurricane project for the Shearwater Museum, someone will commission me to do a Spit. Sigh.

Re: Brian Taylor Spitfire Build

Awesome, look forward to seeing your progress. I have the 83" BT Spitfire short kit from Bob Holliman waiting for a future build, in the mean time I've been gathering information on the BT builds and summarized it here at http://spitfire9.com/btbuild.htm

I plan to use a DL50/55
cheers!
