I wanted to see that fly-off also!! I'm skeptical on both sides... Electric outlasting nitro (with a reasonable sized battery an reasonable sized tank) I'd need to see that. 55AX 16 minutes WOT on 6 Oz... I dunno, I'd like to see that too. Maybe I have all of my timers set too low!

How about this... How many laps around the field in a two hour window, including landings for refueling and battery changes. I would think that Electric stuff would start to get pretty hot with 2 hours of steady running, but maybe you could change a battery and get back in the air faster than refuel and restart. Sounds like fun to me!

With proper cooling the electric will have no more heat issues than any IC that is run non-stop for the same period of time.

If you do not have several batteries the charge time will catch up with the flying time and the fuel powered would win. That's what sucks about electric, you need to carry a lot of batteries around depending on how "back-to-back" you want to do your flying, it doesn't have any drawbacks related to run times or ability to provide loads of power-to-weight.

I don't know of many people who fly non-stop like that. There's lots more to do at the field.

Electric flying is pretty much seeing how close to a dead short you can run without setting it on fire.

LOL, I'd like to see that too, I did not say wot actually, I don't see too many people fly a 3d plane at wot anytime.
What I was saying is by hammering on it... was typical hovering, flat spins, knife edge spins and such, harriers, just a regular hot dogin flight, hardly ever wot. Flying the same identical style with an E powered plane of the same size and weight it would be hard pressed to get near the same flight time in one single flight.

Just a friendly question Davemc36......Do you fly glo at all? Cause if your just going by what you see in flight duration by watching other people who fly glo, then thats not accurate because most people only fly for 5-10 mins regardless weather they fly glo or electric so you don't really know how long they COULD be flying by how much is still left in the tank. If you do fly glo also then I'm not quite sure where you are coming from.

There is? What else? LOL!!

Okay, make it one hour! I'm in! And bring lots of batteries... I'm gonna fly nitro, WOT all the way. I'll go clockwise, you go counter clockwise.

Re: Nitro vs Gas

Reading this thread I just chuckle. Each Gas, Glo and Electric have there place. I say we go outside where it is 15 - 20 below with each one and see which will stay running longer. My bet is the gasser then the electric then the glow if you can get it to run at all. With that said the moral of the story is glow hates cold, glow makes things all slimey, glow is difficult to start on a cold day, glow does however leave a vapour trail when it runs oh ya that is the slime that misses the plane and falls to the ground.
Then electric will run but doesn't sound like a plane, requires various size batteries which are not cheap if you have more than one plane, batteries last a few years then you can spend a small fortune replacing them, batteries might blow up when charging, and besides I haven't seen a full size electric plane yet so this is just not real.
Then gas, get fuel on almost any street, little or no clean up, no slime, runs when cold, starts without a starter or starter battery, less equipment to transport, sounds like an engine costs less to operate, uses less fuel per flight therefor longer flight times, and last but not least but most important is realistic.
Somehow we left out paper airplanes, rubber band powered and gliders and turbines????Let's not go there.

Hummmmmmmmmmm!!!!!! makes you wonder???????????

Just about sums up why I can't wait to get a gasser in the air.
