Last night I read that VeRA would be landing in Gatineau before finally returning home to Hamilton after it's historic flight to England & back. We only got one pass & she was over 3 hours late but you go with what you're given. My album is here

Nice! Not an easy feat, getting detail with that black underside.

Re: P 40, P 51 & VeRA on her way home.

Thanks Kevin & John. It's very tough to get detail under it & even harder when it's flying as high as it was. Add to that I was determined to get good prop blur so shot much slower shutter speeds than I originally wanted to. The P 40 & P 51 went up mid afternoon so I had a try at them with some settings but had very little blur so I cut the shutter speed even more. I'm about to add the rest of the photos from the day now.

Re: P 40, P 51 & VeRA on her way home.

Well I'd say you nailed it, Larry! It's a great photo.

Couple of observations:

- It looks like they have their work cut out for them, cleaning the exhaust residue from VR-A's nacelles! The lead deposits are extremely obvious.

- P-51's look better in RAF camouflage than any other scheme I've ever seen. Actually makes me want to add one to my R/C fleet...

Thanks Max.

Kevin I don't know what the RAF scheme looks like but I really don't like the RCAF version. Vintage Wings has put up a very nice story & set of photos about the event here.

The Mustang in your photo is wearing the RAF scheme: late-war dark green & dark grey camouflage on the upper surfaces & sides, and a lighter grey on the undersides. Add the yellow trim along the leading edges of the wings and the sky "fighter" band on the aft fuselage for some contrast/colour and it looks quite sharp. It's essentially the same late-war scheme that RAF Spitfires wore. Really stands out from the usual USAAF Mustangs.

Re: P 40, P 51 & VeRA on her way home.

So that's a British scheme then. I guess I'd best read up on the restoration & paint scheme at their site. I based my opinion on another P 51 in a black & white photo flown by someone I know & thought it looked to be similar in colour.

Re: P 40, P 51 & VeRA on her way home.

Here she is doing a flyover the her home when returning this past weekend. Sorry about the poor camera work, I had a 3 year old wrapped around my legs.
