My understanding is that MAAC insurance provides liability insurance to the individual modeler wherever they may operate, as long as the MAAC safety code is adhered to.

It also provides liability insurance to the owner(s) of the property on which a MAAC charted club operates, and to the owner(s) of the property on which a MAAC sanctioned event is held (should that event not take place at a MAAC charted club location.) Again, the MAAC safety code must be adhered to.

I do not believe (but am not sure) that the owner(s) of any property an individual operates from that is not a MAAC charted club or a MAAC sanctioned event, is covered.

You may wish contact the MAAC Insurance committe for clarification. Contact information is on the MAAC website.

Regards,
...jim

For what it's worth.

I posted this question to our zone director and a macc past president who were at one of our meetings. We were looking to host an event at another location and did not understand which direction to take at the time.

The answer was Maac would cover and sanction any personal flying or event as long as you have permission from the proprietors.I was surprised.

That being said over a year ago now.I don't know if that has changed.

bigguy,

I had heard the same thing and we have gone by that at our club for any special events so far.

Knowing this....then there is no reason to inform MAAC of any club events or events ( like a float fly at a member's house) as long as the owner says it's OK. Hmmmmmmm.

One could always argue howver, that the member may not own the lake and therefore you are do not have permission of the owner... I realize this is probably getting overly "picky", but it's something to think about.

On a lighter note, I too have had an Eagle 2 come to roost in the top of a fir tree...I wonder if this is a design flaw?

Design flaw?? Wouldn't an eagle sitting on a tree be the actual design

Maybe that's what I've been doing wrong! All this time I've been trying to keep it OUT of the trees!

Hey big guy. I have no doubt that maac would sanction an event at other than a sanctioned field with permission from the land over. What I was wondering is this. Does the maac member have liability coverage when flying at another site without sanctioning the event. Because lets face it. Who is going to send in a sanction form every time he flys at the cabin or anyplace else like this.

Good point Tag, but it is best answered from MAAC directly. If you send them an email, perhaps you could post the response as I'm curious as well.

Thanks

Bob

ps cp140, kinda makes you wonder why anyone would by a plane called a "dart" then eh?
