Hey RB, have you ever flew in "the quintessential Canadian winter plane"??!!!!! unless it has a turbine on the front, it is way to much like work to keep it warm, ice free and fueled! Then you freeze once in the air (always hoping for a good inversion!) and to top it all off getting stuck in the slush and deep snow =) I used to think ski flying was romantic......maybe it is, in March when the snow has settled and only for landing on snowmobile tracks near pre-drilled holes !!!!!!

I have flown in a Beaver on floats but it was it was on a beautiful sunny day in August up in northern Saskatchewan from Woolaston Lake into a Uranium mining camp. I'm sure your observations on the hardships of flying in winter in one are very true. i just think of it in a romantic way (i.e. forget reality!) as a kind of Canadian icon.

Ah, winter. Up at 6 A.M. and out on the ice preheating the helis at -55F. Nothing like it to make you think, "Man, I wish I was home wishing I was out here!".
