[Thunder Chicken]

Finally after about 7 or 8 years, from NS, to Sioux Lookout, to Timmins (in u-hauls), building 2 left wings, deciding after construction how to mount the engine/radio and many other should I/shouldn't I's, this aircraft is done!! My wife is probably the only one I have to thank most for finishing it because she would not let me start any others until it was finished!!
I've always liked the Norseman, I worked around one fore 5 years and have 4-500 hours in one and it is my favorite airplane. If I ever win the lottery, i think i'd buy a Norseman for a personal plane!!
Anyways, after much debate of a paint scheme (the one I flew was to complicated) I chose an old OPAS (Ontario provincial air service) scheme of Norseman CF-OBN. Even though it is unlikely I will ever put this one on floats, I'm sure it will be a nice aircraft for the 'hanger'.
It is powered with a 17cc gasser. It has flaps. Ailerons and flaps have 1 servo for both with bellcranks in the wings. Finished weight was um......10 pounds, my paint job got a little heavy I think, but at this weight I'm sure it will fly just fine, probably like the full scale plane, not overpowered!!!!

Nice job and I hope you will have many flights with it and eventually
put it on floats. Being an old modeler I have some very old Model Airplane News Mgazines
and many others stuff in my garage, I recall an issue of MAN magazine dating back
to 1944 0r 45 for the plans to build one. The plans were drawn by one of the
Norseman engineers....Noorduyn of Valcartier Airport here in Montréal....
It was in the days of rubber powered models and no radio controlled activation.
Gas engines were newbies and were not glow fuel...Spark plug, coil, condenser and
battery for ignition. With a fuel timer...30 to 50 seconds engine run was the standard.
Just so to bring it up to altitude and controlled??? glide back to earth.
That engineer was so ahead of his time that in the plans, he incorporated pendulum
controlled elevators, ailerons and or rudder control so no excessive over control
would doom the model;. They were pendulums in the center of fuselage just under
the CofG of model linked to a control rod to the elevator to activate up or down motions.
You could do the same for other controlled surface to limit excessive uncontrolled motions.
I have seen in it use on some gassies Class
A and Bs on aileron and elevator...and when carefully adjusted you would swear one
was inside to fly that model.
Just to pass it along as I believe the Norseman was the first model to fly like this.

I love it, a classic. A real Canadian bush plane. Looks like you did an amazing job despite moving several times while working on it. Very impressive.

As you can see from my photo I have one as well, and it flies very realistically, particularly with the flaps and a Saito 91. I did mine in RCAF colours from 1943, as I had met a pilot who flew Norsemans in the Arctic, doing survey work from 1942 to 1944. Canada was concerned that the Russians would try and claim much of the northern territories. Mine also includes navigation lights that I can turn on and off from the transmitter. Always have to use lots of rudder during the flights for realistic operation

You colour scheme will make it a delight to follow in the air.

What is a nice looking Norseman!

At first I wasnt sure which size that one was. I taught a couple of kids to fly the '40 size one. It flew so well they used it to learn to fly and even got their wings with it. They took it to the KW scale rally and flew it there (the were 13 at the time). That was a great plane.

I'm sure yours will fly just as nice. That is the kind of plane it is- A real beaut to fly.

I have the '90 size- which is what yours is, I presume. I use mine exclusively for float flying. I think I have a video of it somewhere. I will throw it up on youtube so you can have a look-see.
