What's the difference between the DX7 and the DX7s? Or are they the same?

Re: DX7 / DX7s

The DX7s was just released last year. It supports DSMX and has the ability to use telemetry features. It has a buddy box port. People tend to like the roller it has like the DX6i and DX8.

The DX7 was released a few years back. It came stock with the older DSM2 technology but can be upgraded to DSMX for a cost by Spektrum. It was built by JR for Spectrum so has an arguably better build than some of Spektrum's own designs. This has a buddy box port.

The DX7se was released a few years back as the 'special edition' of the DX7. Note that it has no buddy box port. It's a DSM2 radio. (I'm not that familiar with it but it appears to be based off the DX7 so it might have been built by JR.) I'm unsure if it's upgradable. - I know you didn't ask about it but with the names so close, I wanted to squash the confusion.

Re: DX7 / DX7s

Greg has it correct. The DX7 was made by JR to Horizon Hobby/Spektrum specs. This was confirmed by dribbe (from Horizon Hobby) on various forums. It's based on the older JR7202.

The DX7SE was a special 11ms high frame rate version of the DX7. This was also made by JR.

The DX7S is a completely new radio and shares much of it's design with the DX8. Neither of these were made or designed by JR. The DX7S does have quite a number of new features including the new (and easy to use) AirWare software/programming, telemetry, DSMX, SD card, etc. Also don't forget that it's software is up-gradable so you can always have the latest features!

If it were my choice? It's no contest... DX7S all the way. It benefits from 5+ years of advances in technology!

Oh, in case you are wondering... the gimbals on the DX7S (and DX8 ) are all ball bearing just like the old 7. They are silky smooth! You can also adjust spring tension and ratchet throttle all without opening the TX.
