Hinge tape

What are you guys using for hinge tape on your foamies? I've seen some of the arf kits come with some nice very good tape, some don't. I have used scotch tape but that tape that comes with some kits seems a lot better, any ideas, anyone. ken

Re: Hinge tape

3M Blenderm tape - If buy Great Planes hinge tape at $7.50 a roll that is what it is. I have never bothered trying to source it elsewhere 1 roll goes a long way, it is light, very thin, strong and sticks like crazy. I would not be surprised if you can get it from a medical supplies place.

Re: Hinge tape

+1 for blenderm. Don't forget to remove any residual mold release agent prior to taping. Rubbing alcohol & scott towel work fine for that.

Re: Hinge tape

Just curious.... this has what to do with SPADS?

But, fwiw, I use Duck brand heavy duty clear tape. Its alot cheaper than blenderm and works well. Lay it out on a peice of backer, the kind you have left from sign vinyl after you peel the vinyl off. This makes it easier to work with, and less fingerprints etc. Cut it to size and apply it. The secret is to shoot it with some heat from a heat gun, and press it down firmly. The heat will soften up the tape to help it conform, and activate the adhesive making it more effective.

Nothing.

He probably saw there was no forum for foamies and thought he'd drop it here for the heck of it.

Re: Hinge tape

hmm.. indoor flying?? Construction ideas hints and tricks??

No biggie anyhow, but it caught my attention when I saw it in SPADS since we dont use anything but the coroplast to make hinges, so I had to see what crazy nut was trying to reinvent the "natural" way of making hinges on SPADS.
