Which plane in Phoenix closest to Ember 2?

I have never flown an RC anything. When I got interested in RC planes I got really gungho about the whole thing and started planning out which super fast planes and which high powered batteries I'd be buying. I'll get to that eventually but I pulled back on the reigns a little bit first.

I decided I wanted to start with a Spektrum DX6i so I bought a used one from the classified section of this forum. After that I went down to my local hobby store and bought a copy of Phoenix V3 since it's compatible with my Tx. While I was there I started talking to the guy about the ParkZone Ember 2. He's getting more in next week so I'm thinking about buying a bind-n-fly version.

So... Is there a plane in Phoenix that would be somewhat similar to flying an Ember?

Re: Which plane in Phoenix closest to Ember 2?

At the moment, and because its mostly an indoor plane, there aren't any planes on Phoenix that are as small as the ember using only elevator and rudder. The only planes I can think of in there which dont have ailerons (turns with rudder only, but using your radio's aileron stick) are the Parkzone Radian and Multiplex Easystar but they are much bigger (1meter + wingspans) compared to an Ember, so you can try flying them to get used to this kind of control method; the ember will be a lot easier to fly than these planes though, just make sure its very calm outside and give yourself a lot of flying space and you will catch on. A few guys at our club learned the basics of RC flying using embers and vapors Indoors when they joined our club during the winter months. Hope that helps a little. Good luck and have fun!

Alternatively you can try flying the tiny foam edge 540 and yaks in Phoenix; they are much more demanding than the ember but they are around the same size and flying them in an outdoor setup with some realistic weather will also show you how the outdoors affects planes of these sizes and weight. Crash replacement will be free, so go nuts

Cool, thanks Avi. I'll give those a try.

Wow! That's alot of fun! I've been flying the Yak 30 in "Fair" wind with just 25% dual rates. I hadn't played with weather yet but it's fun to just hover or try to fly the same patterns as when things were calm.

Is there a way to change the it so that it will show winds speed in Km/h instead of m/s? 8 m/s doesn't mean much to me without a conversion table.

Yes there is! I'm at th eoffice at themoment so I don't have Phoenix in front of me, but I think in the first dropdown you can change units in the option somewhere, it's there, you just have to find it, or see if you can keyword it in the e-manual I find a 15km/h wind with 22km/h gust , 30% turbulence and 5-10% thermals feels like a typical day where I fly, try that
